I'm actually a little confused: if you have a preamp/usb interface and you're trying to get your stuff into garageband in the end anyway, why aren't you just recording directly to garageband? Is this a fetishistic thing with the 424? Yep. I actually have a statue of/shrine to the 424 made entirely ...

A: Cleaner recordings B: An audio interface for your computer with either two or four inputs Better to tackle A before B. My approach when monitor shopping was to go for the biggest woofer size for the lowest price (I don't like using a sub and I don't know why). I ended up getting a pair of these puppies.... http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/StudiophileCX8.html ...For around 400 from a sweetwater sale. Normally ov...

The most awesome portable 4-track setup. Help me pleez.
since my half-inch machine and board are going to be out of commission for a while (re-capping, re-lapping, etc; plus I am moving in a month), I thought I'd put together an awesome portable 4-track setup. The stuff I already have: Portastudio 424mk III in ecellent condish. Power conditioner 2 channe...

Also keep in mind that the polar pattern of a given mic varies by frequency. I'm guessing they usually stick around 1k, but I have seen polar pattern diagrams with a thick line representing a midrange frequency in addition to secondary lines (dotted, dashed, etc) representing higher or lower frequen...
