There are some sound issues on the demos that I find concerning. The demo for the 3x4 plate is very hissy, the noise level is extremely high. Also, on the 3x6 plate demos, there is higher noise levels on one side than the other. Is this due to poor recordings, or pickup problems with the hardware it...

I think the best of the hardware samplers are the Akai S5000 and S6000, and the Emu Ultra series (E4XT, E6400, E5000). The Akai 5/6k series allow a max RAM of 256 megs, which really can load fairly large samples. Also, the 5/6k can be outfitted with USB interfaces and edited from the computer.

I love my 1978 vintage DBX 162, what a nice sound that works on so many things.

I have swapped out tubes in my PRO VLA. The change was subtle, but something you could also definitely hear. If you went with tubes that had a strong sonic flavor, you would be able to hear that.

I did feel that this piano and recording were a bit on the bright side. When the pianist hit some of the high notes loudly they did sound hard. A little softening might be appropriate, but I agree I don't like a mushy sound. So much depends on the piano itself, and the room.

I just did a little research on the Avenson Sto 2 mics, and I think 3 feet apart might be too much separation. A tighter spacing could work better for them, or maybe an x/y. Pianos are notoriously difficult to mic. There are so many factors: the piano, the music, the room, mics, the artists' goal of...

I just ordered the DAV BG1 a day ago! The stereo image in the "Lo, how a rose" selection seems skewed strongly to the left. If I sit in the center of the sweet spot there's definitely a lot more coming out the left speaker than the right. What mics did you use when making this recording? Thanks for ...

eBay has suddenly gone millitant on postings with multiple brand names. I had one pulled the other week becasue I used "xxxxx Like yyyyy" in the title, and even though EVERYONE does this apparently its not allowed so they totally DELETE it (won't even let you edit it and repost it). But at least th...

eBay really screwed you over by pulling the auction page *after* the auction ended. That just doesn't seem fair to me, and could cause you more difficulties if there is a problem with the transaction. As others are saying, you need to follow up on this from all angles as quickly as possible. The fir...

Did he use extensive quotes and pictures from the UA web site? Or did he write his own text and take his own pictures of the unit? It would make me a little uncomfortable that the auction was pulled after it was over. Does that mean it was like it didn't happen? What about all the eBay rules and reg...

I've read *far* more positive reviews of the Neutrik than negative. That said, I use DBX PB-48 balanced patchbays. Some patchbays don't hold the connectors tightly, and I've found these patchbays should be avoided. I had a rack full of Furman PB-48's and am finally almost done replacing them, as the...

I've owned both the Chinese made PRO VLA, which is the current model, and the older American made PRO VLA. In some ways the Chinese version is better in my opinion, but it's really more a situation that they are different but equal. I found the Chinese PRO VLA to be smoother and cleaner than the USA...

I can't say that I've ever seen a label peeling off a CD, or a CD that has been warped by a stick on label. Seems like a pretty safe way to cheaply label CD's. Besides, many people now will simply rip the music of the CD to their iPod or whatever mp3 player they use. That's what I do anyway. The CD ...

I like the Behringer Ultra-Curve 2496 for its metering and RTA. As far as I know, there's nothing close to it in it's price range (approx $300). I don't run signal through it though, it's here just for the metering.

Re: Question about adding outboard gear when mixing

The problem as I see it it, I dont want to solo, let say the bass guitar, and make it sound terrific all by it self. Iwant to process it while hearing the rest of the instruments. But If Im going track by track, how would that be done?? Im planning on getting another PC to transfer the new processe...
