debut album finally done - analog
So I posted on here not all too long ago, but I'm following up because I finally finished my debut album. Pretty pumped. It was all recorded at home on cassette and mastered by Carl Saff out in Chicago. I guess its indie-ish sounding music - big influences include John Frusciante, Yo la Tengo, Velve...

thanks for those thoughtful comments. Ha, yeah, I'm a chronic mumbler and it definitely jumps out even more when i sing. But yup, JamesHE you got that lyric right. I think I'm pretty happy with the vocals though. My tastes run along the john frusciante, early black keys, black lips, etc. line, and I...

does this song need something else?
Hey, I'm working on my first full length release. I did a first-cut mix down of the song below ("what you want") last night and I can't decide whether it needs some other sounds in there. I had been planning on adding in some shimmery electric guitar but now I'm not so sure; can't decide whether all...

Hey, no problem. I put some pics up at: http://www.thelowbredwatts.com/?page_id=31
I originally built it a couple years ago but have hacked it up a bunch of times. It's got three home-made single pole single-coil pickups.

I've never needed to dump individual tracks but imagine you just run RCA outs 1-4 on the back of the portastudio to an interface with 4 in's. I'm sure there are folks on here who know the ins and outs outs of it, not me though. I just use the edirol interface for the mix down of all tracks, so it so...

Hey thanks, on the recording above I tracked everything at the same time on the portastudio on 3 tracks (casio sk-1, vox, and guitar) and just mixed them down together, so I didn't have to deal with time stretch differences at all. That's pretty much what I always do... do everything on tape, then j...

ambient slide demo from last night with 1-string guitar
I'm working on my first full length album and a lot of the songs have similar textures and are pretty hard hitting. Last night I was working to come up with something more ambient to give the listener a break, and this is what I landed on. The noise loops are my diddley bow (homemade 1-string guitar...

Thanks ashcat_lt, I'm just using Audacity but the meters in the program aren't showing any clipping. Should I just experiment more keeping the input volume real low on the interface and boosting the volume out of the portastudio? jgimbel, thanks for the kind words. that's me in the recording, stuff ...

Hey thanks. It sounds like distortion to me, but it's pretty subtle. Maybe I'm just being anal given the roughness of the sounds I'm trying get, but I definitely hear distortion that I don't hear on the tape, most evident around the peak volume in the song. The interface has an input volume knob tha...
