You can't easily do a rack shelf with these units. I think if I was just getting started with preamps I'd be tempted to go with a couple of Warm Audio TB12s or TB12 500 if you want the 500 series.

My Marshall head got "disappeared" a while ago and I got a Peavey Windsor head to replace it (for $179!) that's been pretty popular with guitarists in the studio. Running through Marshall 1960 cabs.
