Today's Tape-Op Affirmation

Dr. Demento is playing two of my tunes tonight. Recorded in my basement with the usual assortment of rudimentary tools, with some good friends and a few beers. Actually, lots of beers. I never could have done it without You Wild and Wooly Characters here at Tape-Op. To those of you saying I never SH...

Re: Concrete Sealer

Yeah - Drylok. That's the stuff. GREAT stuff. If you have leaking cracks, hit those first with Waterplug hydraulic cement - that stuff is amazing, too. Also check the exterior for any fixes you might be able to apply to the way water moves around the building. But you can't beat the Drylok, no, it's...

Re: Being a bandleader is f****** hard work

Sure.... Recorded a collection of fresh tunes last winter with basically just me and a couple other guys. I covered drums, bass and rhythm guitar... Now comes the push to gig. I need a bass player and a drummer. The only guys I can come up with to cut the mustard are wicked busy because, well, becau...

Re: OK - why is pot illegal and alcohol is legal?

Yeah, I think Colorado was the first state to illegalize pot on the basis that the mexicans who smoked it didn't much care to work afterward. Wish I knew the history better - because it's put us in a very stupid place today; alcohol kills every day and pot does not. I won't say it's good to use it, ...

Re: What DAW do you use?

Cool Edit Pro. I'm on a wicked budget so it's not like I try others out for fun.

Also, I've had a few others thrown at me but none have worked properly with my hardware. CEP has never given me trouble.

Never.

Well.....

Re: best way to record solo singer with guitar?

The problem I have is that I can spend twenty minutes positioning mics and five minutes later the guy has moved, to like, New Hampshire or the local pound or somewhere miles away from where he was when we set up. Singin' and playin' gets physical sometimes and you can't blame the guy for moving. So ...

Re: carpal tunnel

My experience with tendonitis and carpal tunnel was when I was gigging five nights a week on bass and geeking out on the computer every day. I had no insurance. Doctor loaded me with anti-inflammatories (made my ears ring, too) and I stopped seeing the doctor when he said there was no recourse but s...

Re: "Matching Instruments" and Recording Reverb

I use a little Alesis Nanoverb on the monitor board for vocalists who like to hear the verb in their cans, but that's about it. Any verb in the mix is processed after tracking.

Exception - guitar amp reverb when it's "the sound", of course that's just that and it aint no more.
