This seems to me like a HUGE Pro Tools limitation, perhaps bigger than any other that people are always moaning about on this forum. I would imagine that most of us mixing in the box are using many RTAS plug ins, and that as we proceed forward with overdubs we also do some mixing. To stop using RTAS...

Digidesign recommends you TURN OFF delay compensation until you are doing final mixing. Hmm, I find that a bit odd. Say that you have a percussion track with some plug ins that introduce a 4000 sample latency. This would be equal to about a tenth of a second at 44.1K. Then you go to overdub a guita...

Speaking of NHT and subwoofers, I have the NHT Sub 2 which I highly recommend. It's a pretty big cabinet, with 2 ten inch drivers, but sounds very articulate and flat down to the very lowest end of the spectrum. I wonder what you mean by sub lows getting annoying. Is it simply that you don't like to...

Those monitors look pretty awesome, never seen em before. 82 lbs and 30-20Khz +- 3 db. How do you have them mounted? I have an old pair of B&W DM6s which I really like.

Thanks. Each individual elastic audio anchor point has to be added manually, correct?

Elastic audio question

I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to have a region continuously speed up over a period of time (ramping) using elastic audio in Pro Tools. Any suggestions? Thanks.

From all the great reviews, I'm leaning toward an SM7. However, I should point out that I'm looking for something that would be well suited for quiet acoustic guitar fingerpicking and soft vocals. I realize that the SM7 isn't all that sensitive, and and is often used to tame harsher sources. Any opi...

Mics on the dark/warm side

Any suggestions on mics in the $500 range that have a cool character that is a bit on the dark or warm side? I'm thinking something along the lines of a poor man's Coles 4038. I was considering a Shure SM7, but heard that they can be a bit dry. I'm looking for something that has some color.

Original Rode Classic vs Classic 2

I have a Rode Classic mic that I sent out for repair. The power supply needs new parts, which unfortunately are no longer being manufactured. I was offered a new Classic 2 as a replacement. Does anyone have any comments on how these two mics differ in sound quality? On gearslutz someone mentioned th...

Jan/Feb letters section, T Bone Burnett

In this month's letters section, Todd Zimmerman poses what I believe is a question that deserves closer attention. He is referencing the T Bone Burnett interview from a previous issue, in which Mr. Burnett states that digital recording degrades the sound quality. It is common practice to record to a...

A used Marantz 2270 or 2285 receiver would work well. They made great units back then, before switching their focus from the audiophile market to the general consumer.

I'm not having any luck getting Itunes lame to work. I already installed lame 3.97, and am running Itunes 7.0.2. I've heard about others that have later versions of Itunes that have had problems. Could someone who has gotten this to work please let me know the exact version of Itunes and Itunes lame...
