AES to S/PDIF Cabling/Signal flow (Tascam UH 7000)
I'm having a little issue here and would be greatly appreciative anyone could shed some light on my confusion. I recently purchased a Tascam UH 7000 after reading the review in Tape Op, and sound wise, lives up to the hype. Knowing that it only has 2 ins and 2 outs and AES digital in/out, I planned ...

I always find, for basic tracks, nothing beats the synergy of a group of musicians playing together in a context that they are comfortable in. Vocals etc., overdubs can all be done later, depending on track count Free would play live, same room no isolation and Paul Rogers would sing, handheld, into...
you have have have to compensate for the latency. once you learn to really hear the sound of the parallel track being a couple samples off from the dry track, you will realize it's Thee Worst Sound In The World.
you are correct! the latency is now driving me nuts. I'm not sure my int...

Hello all, Thanks so much for the tips; the parallel compression idea really helps with my hardware DBX160vu, even with a slight bit of latency noticeable i'm still in awe of how cohesive it makes things sound. I've rebussed my tracks into Reaper and am much happier with the automated mixing process...

Thanks for all the advice guys; i'm definitely going to try parallel compression (which is something I havn't had the luxury of since I've been limited to 8 tracks); another interesting suggestion is the re-amping of the submix or submixing to mono; that would be an interesting tactic for center-pan...

Even with a slow tape IPS; my 246 cassette player (fully serviced, recapped, calibrated etc.) sounds less lo-fi than my 388 (which i will soon be selling); i also have a fostex E-16; but since i dont always have access to the studio due to travel time i'm limited to the 246. It's not a lo-fi sound i...

Recording Analog/Mixing Stems DAW; Techniques?
Hi everyone; I'm new to the world of digital recording so I can mix and automate stems from my Tascam 246 cassette player. My routing from the 246 tape outs--->balancing box for -10 to +4---->Scarlett interface. Usually I sum and mix down to two track from either the 246 or 388 live, rehearse my mix...

I wouldn't sub a 6V6 for a 6CA7; the 6CA7 tube has more in common with the EL34 and would probably stress the output transformer of your little old champ. I suggest sticking with 6V6; a 6L6 would get you more volume but you would have to tweak the cathode bias resistor and even then its not 100% saf...

That is correct; it really depends on what you're after. When I think of Tweed amps I think of Neil Young wailing on Zuma, if you want more gain i suggest experimenting with different 12ax7 preamp tubes. In single ended circuits they can have a huge impact on the overall gain as they function as dri...

An open screen grid resistor could cause low power and significant hum...I would just replace the electrolytics, only in the power section as well. Usually if it sounds thin, quiet, noisy and brittle this is the culprit...I wouldnt toil with the resistors; the natural drift is what gives a lot of vi...

I generally like recording synths in mono, and occasionally during important tripped out parts ill goose my Tascam RS-20 Spring Reverb and create a reverb'd fake stereo image...it depends on how synth dominant the track or musical vision is; I also like running my synths through my ART tube MP (horr...

Go with what you know?
For me, the biggest obstacle at the given moment is the dual-reality of sticking with (what little) I know vs. obtaining new knowledge (or heeding opinion). Sometimes it can be hard to differentiate between the hare-brained "accidents" that work and what I find to be universally accepted. I recently...

The headache continues... So I went into Frys Electronics to recommend a Multimeter that could read low Mv with a 1 mhz band-width. They recommended me the Fluke Model 115. I get home; read off the test cards and again, I get a bunch of -0, .1, .2 and repeat. Most digital multimeters don't have the...
