I'd just try it both ways. Set up one way, record a couple minutes. Setup the other way, record a couple minutes. Use your ears to decide which one you like better.

I've a paia headphone amp I built a few years back I'd sell for cheap. Works great. I switched to a power amp and passive attenuator, so am not using this.
