i dunno...in the tape op book he pretty much said he used two regular cassette 4-tracks and just pressed the buttons at the same time with some trial and error if i remember correctly.

yeah, i bought toolsheds sytek and i love it. given that i have less and less time to tinker with stuff and just want to hit record, it is really good on just about anything. a ton of gain for dynamic and ribbon mics, and the burr brown channels pair nicely with a ldc for a better than acceptable vo...

yeah, you have an insert point on the first twelve channels of your m12, and an insert point before the main outs. like suggested, you need an insert cable. the points are cleverly setup on stereo trs jacks, with the tip sending the signal, and the ring returning it. if you were doing a group compre...

Do you have any ribbon mics? If so use it and place it overhead above the instrument about 2 to 3 feet. With the selection of mics you mentioned, I would use one of the condensers. The least bright of the 2. Also, If you are multing the viola, ask the player if he or she would like to hear each pas...

I think that the expectation that most home studios these days revolve around a console is a little dated, yet if one is using it as an insert, i've not seen a balanced insert point on a typical home studio mixer, so the argument that they pose is valid. more and more, with people using outboard pre...

i like to record direct(ly) in front of a marshall 4x12 with a hiwatt head dimed.

that's cuz it's rock, and i roll like that.

or something.

(btw, your guitars sound fine...do you use the behringer noise reducer w/ the tonelab?)

i like a 421, about three inches from the grill, and spaced between the center to the edge of the cone to taste. depending on what i'm going for, i either like to let it rip, and backoff on the preamp, or keep it quiet, and crank the mic pre. i also have had good luck with a gt44 tube mic, but prefe...

i play an older g&l asat classic, with the tele style bridge. i love it, and have no complaints, other than i want to find one cheap and beat to hell to frankenstein with a different pickup combination. i think that the usa ones are light years ahead of the current crop of usa fenders. they are supe...

so placing it on the outside of the kick drum wouldn't be a concern? well, the spl might not be a problem (especially with a mic like the royers), but the air generated by the drum might fuck up the ribbon. picture a piece of old school chewing gum, with the foil backed paper wrapper. now imagine t...
