Thanks everyone. The C4000 in omni mode was the winner of the room mic battle today, by a considerable margin. We're fooling around with positioning tomorrow.

Thanks a lot everyone. When I posted this we had already spent an entire day tuning and adjusting the drum set itself, so it was more of a "what else to do now"? kind of thing (we were looking to fix it acoustically, still haven't begun tracking). I live in Brazil, so I'm not sure what Moon Gel is, ...

What sound to look for in the room mic?
I'm going for a drum sound with similar characteristics to: Tar - Jackson (track 4) The Jesus Lizard - Mouth Breather Neurosis - A Sun... Shellac - The Man Who Invented Fire The Pixies - Bone Machine I'm thinking more of the kick / snare combo (though I'm really fond of the cymbals on the Tar track)...

Minimizing snare drum ringing without muffling
Any specific tips on tuning / snare adjustments that will help me get rid of nasty high pitched harmonics on a snare drum? If not, any secret muffling expertise that will not maim the drum sound too much? Also, is there anything room / drum position related that will affect this aspect? Additionally...
