great machine i had a lot of fun with mine. i used Scotch 206 NOS, it's 1.5mil and for RMG i used SM911 and it sounded great. hope that helps. Cool, thanks. My understanding is the SM911 and LPR35 are the same tape formulation, but with a different thickness. yes LPR is 1 mil and SM911 is 1.5mil. I...

LPR-35 at 15IPS (TEAC 3340)
Trying to figure out which tape formulation to use with the TEAC 3340. I had been using SM468 on 7" reels. About to move up to 10.5" reels and am wondering whether to stick with the 468 or go to LPR35.
Any insight/experience would be appreciated!

Sorry to bump this really old thread, but it is an interesting thought. Curious to think of the difference between say, a 388 and a 424mkii. Tape width wise, they're the same as 8 tracks on a 1/4 inch = 4 tracks on 1/8 inch. So in terms of tape real estate, the principal difference is that the 388 r...

Portastudio (424mkii) as mixer for Teac 3340?
I think I'll be picking up a Teac A-3340 in a couple of months, and was trying to decide on a mixer for it. Is there any reason why using the Portastudio I have currently wouldn't be ideal? Ideally, the mixer I'd use would have a small form factor, be inexpensive, and have at least a three band eq. ...

Thanks, I have the PDF as well, I'm able to use the EQ during mixdown. I was seeking to have the EQ while outputting all four tracks to a DAW. I can totally get there within the DAW, and that's fun too but of course it's a bit different, and I find the mixing experience on the portastudio really enj...

Tascam 424 MKII, outputting channels while maintaining mix?
With a Tascam Portastudio 424 MKII, is it possible to do a mix on the unit and output the four discrete channels without losing the sound of the mix. It seems that the tape outputs only send out what was directly recorded, and bypass the eq that was applied later. I know pan settings would probably ...
