Re: Going for it
Thank you! The band is very excited about how it came out, which is gratifying. Can't wait to do it again....

Re: Going for it
Wait... what's the penalty around here for resurrecting dead threads? And is it worse if it's for shameless self-promotion? Anyway... we did it! After many sessions and a long time being distracted with other projects, I got done mixing this record for my friends and it is out in the world: https://...

Re: Recording solo violin
Belated thanks for all the help! I used my Sanken CS-M1 (my regular boom mic) just out of frame.... but I wound up much preferring the CAD e300. I had it about ten feet up in omni mode. I didn't really realize how much room sound I was getting until I A/B'd it with the Sanken, and I loved it. We had...

Re: Recording solo violin
Thanks. BTW, I finally took your advice and tried the TOMB ribbon as a "knee" mic. Sounded awesome! (After I took away the drummer's rack toms...)

Re: Recording solo violin
Cool! Thanks. I have a CAD e300, which I tend to like a lot and has an omni mode. Maybe I'll try that!

Recording solo violin
My day job is sound for video production, and I just got a job shooting a solo violin performance in old church. (I have not seen the space, but I'm told it's large.) I haven't actually recorded anyone playing a violin before, so I'm curious if anyone has any general advice for me (mic choice/placem...

Is this a good deal?
I have a chance to get a UAD-2 (Thunderbolt 3 version) for $600. Looks to be barely used.
My current setup is based around an RME Fireface 800, which I will be sticking with for now. I have been pretty happy with the plugins I have so far, but I'm tempted by the idea of LA-2As and Pultecs on mixes.

Is it possible that the interface is sending signal to your phones pre-converter? Or somehow with a different S/N ratio?
Which DAW are you using?

So much good advice here. I love this board.
I’m only chiming in to say that I made my kids turn off Dua Lipa and listen to this album in the car today because of this thread. Thank you!

Re: monitor stands
Can all the mass be in the base? Or would a lighter (hollow) portion between base and speaker pose problems?
I’m thinking about whether a concrete pill from a hardware store could be used to anchor a stand built of boxed plywood or some other wood.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Those look cool. Can I ask what the materials are, and how you determined the exact size? Materials are 1/4" plywood for the base, thin strips of pine for the frame, and 1/8" hardboard (aka Masonite) for the curved surface. I'm mostly improvising on the dimensions, though. Working with stuff I alre...
