Re: Anything coherent on Lee Scratch Perry out there?

That Grantham spring reverb mentioned above may be a mis-spelling of Grampian, who also made ribbon mics.

(Or it could be Grantham...I've never heard of Grantham...)

People Funny Boy is a good book, not a real easy read, but I'm not sure anything about Perry's life could be an easy read. :-)

Re: Drum Skins Made Of Baby Cows

A few folks have mentioned the moisture/heat problem with using calfskin heads. A heatgun is pretty impractical honestly, but if you've ever looked at really *vintage* drumkits...and I mean 20's-30's vintage...many of them had lightbulb sockets mounted inside the drum. A 10-25W lightbulb did wonders...

Re: Drum Skins Made Of Baby Cows

http://www.rebeats.com/ is probably your best bet for calfskin heads. I just took a look around and he doesn't specifically list 'slunk' heads..... for those of you already squeamish about using calfskin heads...slunk heads were the skin of an unborn calf for use on the snare side of a snare drum. I...

Re: ever feel a little amorous toward your favorite mic?

Heh....we have a mic that was used at one point to record some vocals for Madonna....lots of nasty jokes ensued when the mic first showed up.

Re: infrasound/ the "brown note"

I wonder where he got that excellent picture of toilet paper...... I still contend that there is a lot of junk floating around about this, and none of it is ever connected to legit research studies with papers in peer reviewed journals, etc. That link about the effects of ELF (RF, not AF...) is a go...

Re: infrasound/ the "brown note"

I've seen lots of folklore about he supposed "brown note" but I've not seen any real evidence that studies have been done. Can anyone point out any
actual research papers on the subject?

Re: DIY ear surgery

My first thought is that your Dad should turn in his medical license....

Second is, don't ever use those damn "ear candles" to clean out your ears....total snake oil quackery.

Re: Is It Me; Or Are TASCAM Nuts?

Well, for what it's worth, a couple of the cassette Portastudio models
are listed on the www.tascam.com website, but there are no analogue
mixers, just their digital ones.

Re: protools vs cool edit pro....

I'm not sure what you mean by CEP HW Support is pathetic...it's pretty generic and general. I've not yet done the Audition upgrade (even thought he CD is here). I use both PT and CEP and found CEP had a decent learning curve when coming from PT, but I'm not sure it would be much different the other ...
