TapeOpCon Boston update
Well...before we all go crazy and start figuring out all there is to do in Boston I need to let you all know that we are not finding suitable hotel space that will meet our criteria. New Orleans was an amazing combination of venues and East Coast locations are in their prime season in early summer a...

What is happening with the 2006 TapeOpCon
Greetings All, Hurricane Katrina has won the battle for 2006. It is with great sadness that we now know that we will not be in New Orleans for 2006. First we found out the Fairmont Hotel will not be open until November of 2006. The hotel basement was flooded and their electrical system is completely...

Re: Quantegy closes its doors
I used to load and dupe cassettes for Roger King and we got our 1/8'' pancakes of tape bulk and the tape was made in Korea. Cassettes are still very much alive in Mexico so somebody is making tape. The US Govt. still relies on open reel tape for most of it's computer storage. Time to get some reels ...

ATR Alignment workshop at TapeOpCon 2004
The ATR alignment workshop is still happening at this years conference with a slight change in format. This year, we are going to DV tape the set up and alignmnet of a 1/2" Studer ATR on loan from Piety St. Studios at the Orpheum while the DAW workshops are happening at the Fairmont. Since our goal ...

TapeOpCon gets closer...
Hello everyone, Well it is almost here, TapeOpCon 2004. I'm just back from New Orleans where we were successful in securing the famous Howlin' Wolf as our host night club for the music showcases and the Sunday night post party. I have also (just tonight actually) confirmed that Joey Burns and John C...

Re: Dumb question about Cosimo Matassa intrvw in new TO
What he meant was that someone actually rode the input pot on the record circuit to print the hottest level to tape - even for quiet instruments - and then they turned the faders down to achieve the balance at mix - turning things down - what a novel idea - he was alluding to the fact that it was To...

Re: For those of us who can't go to TapeOpCon...
At this stage I would hesitate to say what a reasonable price would be for any post conference content. Given that there are 40,000 subscribers and we hope for just under 1% of the readership to actually register for the conference and even that is a stretch, I don't feel the average Tape Op reader ...

Re: For those of us who can't go to TapeOpCon...
OK, I feel like the Obvious Man here. A DVD of TapeOp would make the conference cost beyond anybodies reach. Seriously, do you think you could possibly capture an event like this on a single DVD? I see people complaining about the price of the conference but they think a DVD would be $20.00? Whose g...

Re: TapeOpCon Shows
Calexico just got back from a small US tour for the SXSW thing and did indeed hook up with Mr. Chesnut and they are hoping to be able to play with him at the TapeOpCon. Jim Dickinson will also hopefully sit in with his sons when NMA plays Saturday night. Drums and Tuba are looking good for later on ...

Re: TAPEOP should have a convention in......................
This is Craig Schumacher, the Conference director and WaveLab Studio.... I feel I have to respond to this thread to clarify our host city selection process. First of all, If any of you who are discussing this, are you coming this year? The only people who have a valid opinion about where we land 200...
