Re: What kind of drum skins are you using?
...Genera Dry on the snare... The first time I heard that head on a snare had me questioning the drum. A client brought his kit into the studio and set it up. Whilest miking the kit I noticed the holes and internal muffle ring (which had me worried). When he hit the snare I was shocked at how lifel...

Track to a Studer A827, mix to Ampex ATR-102.
ProTools is for pussies (but sometimes I use it too).

The 2022 is nice but whatever you do, don't try a Neve 1073 unless you are prepared to sell a kidney.Foot Foot wrote:Holy Crap!!!!!!!!
What an amazing thing this has been.
I MUST HAVE ONE.
Why o why did I decide to restore an old car when I could just walk instead and have an Avalon.

Don't pay too much attention to the VU meter or the red LED indicator as it does not indicate clipping. Put tape over the meter and LED and just use your ears. This box has got headroom for days and sounds great when you feed it. I'm usually pinning the meter.
Have fun.

Re: Deep Purple - Machine Head sound
Great musicians, great songs, tracked to tape, mixed on a great console and most importantly, played together the way a rock band should be.
There is a Classic Albums feature on this record worth hearing.

Re: snare heads of choice for recording?
Evans Genera Dry & Remo Powerstroke 3: Two heads that really suck the life and tone from a drum. You may as well just put a blanket over the snare. Horrible heads. Sorry.
It's hard to go past a coated Remo Ambassador, Emperor or CS in my opinion.

Re: wow, the new interpol album is complete shit.
The debut Interpol record was great and I feel the new one is a worthy follow-up. Mildy over-produced sonicaly but an excellent record none the less.
I thought the latest International Noise Consiracy record was a bit dissapointing.

Re: "Excellent" studios in NYC for $15-25/hr?
$15-$25/hr seems like prostitution to me. Hell even a hooker gets a better hourly rate. With all due respect, you couldn't get me to sit on a couch watching Oprah, downing potato chips for that kind of money. But then again, no-one ever said artists were very good at business. I could be wrong but t...

I am lucky to get to work on this API Legacy Plus. The API Legacy/Legacy+ are definitely amongst the best sounding rock consoles ever. Yours will be even nicer when you fill the last 16 bucket. I don't think you could have made a better choice. Is that Uptown or Flying Faders automation? *RefD sees...

The king of tube mic pre's, a Telefunken V76 in top condition is hard to beat. It's got some color but I wouldn't say it's real dirty. Sounds great going to 2". Great vox preamp.
