Re: Older i7 pre-built PCs, advice needed

Friendzzzz! thanks so much for the advice and discussion. For a total of $355 I ended up buying the following: HP Pavilion 590-p0056 with i5-8400, 16GB RAM (2x8gb), 1TB HDD (audio drive), and a 256gb m.2 SSD (OS drive) Methinks I should be pretty good on my studio super computer mach 4 (or is it 5?)...

Older i7 pre-built PCs, advice needed

Friendz, I've always been someone that can rock at the lowest budget. Case in point, it's 2020 and my current studio PC is based around an HP Pavilion P6000 Desktop w/ a Phenom IIx4 2.8ghz + 8gb ram. I use this with RME's Fireface UCX. I came in to a wee bit o' cash ($350) that I'd love to use to pu...

T. Rex's Main Man, Flo & Eddie's backup vox sound?

Friends, Could you suggest how one might achieve the vocal effect Tony Visconti & team used on Flo & Eddie's backing vocals for Marc Bolan's "Main Man" off of the Slider LP? I can't tell if they're ran through a Leslie or some sort of flanger/phaser box or what. Speaking of boxes, I'd be attempting ...

P-Bass needs repair. Chicago suggestions?

dearest tapeop'ers, my beloved mid-70s fender precision bass is not putting out nearly as much signal as she used to. a clue to the problem must be in the fact that the tone knob is somewhat acting as a volume. all very disturbing in the midst of a recording session. do you have any highly recommend...

Yeah, it really just needs to be able to be removed without a problem...we may be there for only one year. If I built a dense floor on rubber u-boats or pucks and then built a room around that which did not touch the walls and a ceiling, would that work to isolate the drums from the original concret...

Thanks for your replies... I am a committed self-recorder so I really am interested in recording at home. I love the unique results of your own space no matter it's limitations. That said, I am wondering if it would make sense to build a semi-modular box (4 walls & ceiling) perhaps based on Sepmeyer...

Building a non-permanent recording space in rental

Dearest TapeOppers, I'd like to gather some ideas from y'all... I have just relocated from Detroit to Chicago, but due to the worldwide economic woes I am unable to sell my home back in Michigan and will be renting a place in Chicago. Because of this situation I can not do anything permanent in my n...

Replacing woofer in studio monitor

Dearest TapeOppers, Unfortunately one of my low frequency driver's in my 20/20bas monitors blew. Looking to purchase a replacement speaker I contacted the manufacturer Event Electronics. Since they no longer carry the part the support person suggested that I find an alternative by purchasing a simil...

Humanizing MIDI in Garageband?

Hello my dear TapeOppers, I am living betwixt Detroit & Chicago at the moment and I do a lot of Amtrakin'. I purchased the incredibly miniature Korg Nanokey to sketch out tracks while traveling. Being relatively new to MIDI and Garageband, I am wondering if one of you more seasoned types could offer...

Yes! I have totally noticed that as well... I thought that the production of the drums on that record (specifically Hurricane) must have sounded a bit nostalgic in 1976. I wonder if there is a story behind that. Hmm...

I love music.

Just to let you know... I appreciate those insights. I tried the basic hi-pass/lo-pass settings that was mentioned regarding RS106 unit and lo & behold they made lots o' sonic sense!

Let's say that the sound on that drum track is that of a completely unique space... the Abbey Road echo chamber. Now, I know I can't just dial that sound up on my Super Computer, but if one wanted to waste a lil' time with Altiverb (or the like) can anyone offer suggestions on where to start?

Long, Long, Long reverb...(White Album)

Dearest TapeOppers, I haven't pulled out the White Album for a number of years, but I had a nice uninterrupted listen to it recently while traveling by train. One of the things that struck me was the fantastically maudlin George Harrison penned track, "Long, Long, Long". I think that because I have ...
