Ubertar, that sounds pretty cool. Where was the knob set in the recording?

Also, how would it work with bass?

East Bay info?

My wife took a job in Fremont, CA so it looks like we're moving to the East Bay area. I've spent a little time in SF but don't know much about the rest of the region. Any cool areas to live in I should check out? Are there decent music venues in the area, or does seeing good live jazz or indiepop/ro...

I'm using a HDSP multiface on win7 64bit without problems. Is your firmware up to date? IIRC, their newer drivers often require newer firmware.

Did you see their installation notes for Win7?

+1 for a laney vc30, one guy I played with had one and put a weber alnico blue dog in there, which sounded amazing. he had to do some major surgery (moving where the tubes sat in the chassis) to make it fit though.

EL84 tubes and a good 12" "blue" style alnico speaker, what more could you ask for?

The marketplace has changed, that's for certain. I think kids who might have been rabid music fans 20 years ago are more likely to be avid video gamers today. Music is more something you hear while you're doing something else than something you lay back and listen to. And yes, the chunk of the youth...

My guess is the file was cached and being moved over when you tried to play it. Either that or gremlins.

So because it doesn't list a DI box or a mic preamp as a requirement, you think you don't need one? If it helps you wrap your head around it, I think it would fall under that last bullet point, "Peripheral audio equipment, such as a mixer, microphones, studio monitors, musical instruments, etc." Loo...

I'm in bummer city too. I've missed the last 2 at least, I think I might have fallen off the list. I should start paying for the first class postage, but it looks like we'll be moving soon anyway, I guess I'll wait until I know where.

I've got a feeling sample rate isn't your problem, Garageband is probably selecting the sample rate for the audiofire, but I could be wrong.

It looks like the audiofire2 has a line input, and you're feeding it and instrument output. You need a DI box and a preamp.

I haven't used it, but the TASCAM DR680 has 6 RCA outs. Much cheaper is the Fostex MR-16HD, but its 4 outs are spread over 2 1/8" headphone connectors.

If you're looking to try new stuff on a lower budget, I'd start with a ribbon (cascade fathead or apex 205)or a quality dynamic mic (a sennheiser e906, or a used shure sm7 or ev re20). I doubt a cheap tube mic will sound better or remarkably different on many sources than your sterling or groove tub...

Okay, I'll be "that guy."

With a $200 microphone budget, there are better questions to ask than "does this have a tube in it?"

What's the intended use, and what other mics are in your arsenal? What kind of preamps are you using?
