Re: Moving air in the Home Studio
I believe if I recall that there was a study once that said it takes something like 36 ft. for a sound wave to properly mature and expand to its potential before it decays and fades out and resonates from different textures in the room if you mic straight in front of the source. What changes in a s...

Re: Moving air in the Home Studio
I don't have a direct answer for you... just a thought. Sound waves are merely high- and low-pressure variations in the air. So I would guess that as long as the cone can move to it's full excursion (i.e., it's not knocking against the mic), the full wave is formed. That said, I have no idea what th...

Re: Quantegy closes its doors
Im not even trying to be a wise ass either. Hey, that's cool. I'm not here to say you should do one or the other. Personally, I plan on using an analog board, a digital multitrack, and a mixture of instruments and effects. To each their own, and I sincerely hope that however you go, you're happy.

Re: Quantegy closes its doors
I started a long diatribe post about the death of technology and what one does in the face of progress, but it suddenly dawned on me. There's a simple question to be asked:
Are you here to run tape through a machine, or are you here to record music?

Wing, your mad beats brought a smile to my face and a reminder to buy postage stamps to my mind. Rock on!

Re: Studio Owner SHOT.....KILLED....
Not to be crass, but is there a correlation between hip-hop and studio deaths? Paul C, Jam Master J, and now Amjed Abdallah... Does this kind of violence happen in primarily non-hip-hop studios? It really makes me sad.

Not that this is the best place for discussion, but what are you working with now, sixtoo? And are you the same as "6.2" from the Anticon "Music for the Advancement of Hip-Hop" compilation?

...but the same week I was robbed, the assault weapons section of the Brady Bill was not renewed. This particularly razzed me. That Bradly Bill was a weird one for me. I mean, I serisouly believe that the text of the bill was stupid-- it was far too targeted, so that a gun manufacturer could get ar...

I once tripped over a patchcoard which yanked a freestanding Waldorf Pulse onto the control console of my PARIS system. The Pulse's case is fairly heavy-gauge metal, so it dented and jammed one of the control's buttons down. Luckily, the button popped back up and worked, but I had just bought the da...

Well, it's a pretty fucked up thing that's happened. November and December are shaping up to be really bad months for metal / hardcore. Over here in the SF area, there's a promotions company named An Insipid Productions, run by one AJ Cardinal. She died in her sleep at the beginning of November. AJ ...

In the last 10 years? Tons. Ten years ago there weren't any fancy-shmancy mp3 previews, so I trusted waaaaay too many magazine and rec.music.industrial reviews. Ugh.
