Re: best mic for 200 or less...
Well, other than a 57, here's my list....some new, some used: Sennheiser MD421 used $200-225 Shure SM7 used $200 or so Actually, you could just about record anything with a bunch of 57s, 421s and a couple of SM7s...one for vocals and one for bass amp. AKG D112 used around $200 Look for kooky used mi...

Wow, did anyone else catch Klaus saying to watch the resale of used mics to determine which ones are good buys? That must mean that Neumanns are a good buy. But I thought that a week or so ago, everyone on here was saying that they're too expensive and not worth the money....hmmmm.

Re: help wtih drums! leady - ludwig recommendations!
You're going to get a different answer from everyone and all are ok advice, but only you are going to know what sounds best for that particular kit. What kind of music are you playing? What sounds are you looking for? Is the drummer a hard hitter? Which luddy's are they, 3 ply with ring or 6 ply? Yo...

Re: direct boxes blowing....help
Yeah, I know...this is why i was converting the signal through a direct box in the first place to make the long run to my headphone amplifier box....a cheap behringer, btw. I figured it had more to do with the line level coming out of the aux send, being a little hotter than the direct box was looki...

Re: direct boxes blowing....help
I guess to try to answer a few..... I didn't really want to run a 50' 1/4" cable. I figured the signal would be so degraded that it would be hard to get decent levels on the headphone amp. I thought that by converting the 1/4" to xlr, that this would be better for a long run like this. Isn't this ba...

direct boxes blowing....help
I'm sure there's something silly that I'm missing here but I blew two direct boxes over the weekend. I thought this was a pretty basic setup, but here's what went down. Tracking a live band and had our headphone amp in the other room. I usually run aux5 and aux6 out of the board to the amp, but sinc...

I think that's right about the broken synth. I love those records...the blue, red and yellow ones. Great stuff.

Re: Soundelux U195 VS. BLUE Mouse
I don't own either of these, so I really shouldn't comment, but hey, this is the internet...when did that ever stop anyone... Really, from what I've read, the soundelux might be more versatile. If it really does sort of sound like some of the older neumann's like a 47, 67 or 87...whatever, it will b...

Re: OSA mic pre...too short for my API lunchbox?
I just got off the phone with dale, ceo of osa, (should this be in the name dropping thread?) and he said that there are some of the very earliest osa pres that are just a tad short. He said the spec changed just slightly...I think he meant from API, and it's just enough difference to make some of t...

Re: Night Ranger vs. Triumph vs. Zebra vs. Journey vs. ...
anyone seen that solo record from jeff watson...(i think it was him...blonde haired tapper from night ranger?)...it was after night ranger and he put out a solo record and the cover was classic.... it was a painting, or artists' rendition of him riding a raring white horse, holding his guitar, with ...

Re: Odd kick drum micing technique sought
this does sound really interesting and fun....live...but a nightmare in the studio. I'd try putting a 57 or similar up close to each pedal aiming at the beater to get each drummers hits. Then put up room mics for everything else...well, maybe close mic ea snare, just for fun in case you need it, but...
