Re: That 60's Picked Bass Sound

IMO, the secret to just about all vintage bass sounds is a good, Fender bass, with an ampeg B15 amp. Treble all the way down. Bass all the way up. Use the tone knob on the bass for more variety. It doesn't hurt to have Jamerson or Willie Dixon playing either....

Re: Old School Audio Modules

So, you went with the -C. I'm looking to get a couple of OSA modules, but am waiting on the -A, which Nathan has on backorder. I really considered the -C though...I might end up getting one or two of them anyway, later. So, lemme know more about the -C. Man, that -L "mutant" is also very tempting to...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2372544933&category=41466&rd=1 This is got to be something fishy here. This guys only bought skateboard parts in the past. The first item he tries to sell is a mic that's worth about 3X his BIN price. I emailed him telling him i wanted it and I was ...

Re: The Least Favourite Instruments Ever Thread

bagpipes by a mile. Sax...are you guys kidding? Yes, they can be awful...(think Men at Work or countless other 80s songs), but go back and listen to Exile on Main St or any other Stones in that era.....That's how good a sax in rock can be. Also, don't Rocket from the Crypt use sax pretty well? later...

Re: Stereo Mic Overhead Placement (drums)

There are many different options like x/y micing, spaced pair, etc....it really depends on the overall sound you're looking for and the drums, the room, the player....probably in opposite order there.... The easiest and less prone to phasing issues is the x/y. Google "x/y micing techiniques" and I'm...

Re: what would you use for a kick drum mic

you have a 52 which is a kick mic. Do you not like it? It's not as easy to use as some other kick mics as positioning is very critical with this mic. Try some more experimenting with it and I'm sure you can get something you like. If you want, you can always experiment with the ldc mic a few feet aw...

Re: Multimeter suggestions?

you can't go wrong with a fluke. They're pretty much the industry standard. There are about a million different models, so just pick one that does what you need it to do. Also, most pawn shops are full of them as well.

Re: best multi mic...soundelux u195 or royer 121?

soundelux would probably be the most versatile mic overall, but the royer does what it does very well. I'd probably lean towards the one that you think will be better on vocals as this is probably the harder thing to record properly with cheaper gear. You can get some decent guitar sounds with a che...

Re: Just got my new mic pre...anyone else have one of these?

yeah, I've had mine for a while and really love it. I don't use it so much for vocals, but it is the go to for kick, snare and guitar....oh yeah....it's pretty nice as a bass direct as well.

because if he's not recording to a computer, then this scenario involves more problems than the ones we've mentioned. I was sort of assuming he'd at least thought that much through.

Re: beginners overheads

If the room is really nice, then an omni set would be cool. Try the little behringer's....i forget the model number, but I think they're something like $40ea. Also, the Marshall 603's are nice, as are the Oktavas, which are $50ea at Guitar Center. For a little more money, you can get into something ...

Re: record using outboard pre-amps and no mixer

Sure you can do it. You won't have the luxury of using eq going to tape, but maybe you don't need it anyway. Really though, as nice as it is to have a bunch of really nice outboard preamps, most of us only have a few channels. Instead of spending $500-$1000 per channel on 8+ channels, why not just s...

Re: i know this kick can sound better than this

It sounds like it's definitely getting there. Maybe a bit more of just moving the mic around a bit. A few other suggestions...and you might already be doing this....is use a harder beater on the kick. The old Danmar red wooden beaters really give a good smack on the head. Also, as it's been mentione...

Re: Opinions? Sennheiser HD280 Headphones.

I use them for tracking as they are more isolated than others I use....7506, 240, etc....
They also are louder, so that might be why you're perceiving them as brighter. Or maybe they really are...who knows. They are great for tracking drums.....they're worth the $100 for that.
