Re: the pogues..........perfection!
junokane, I was at the TN Fairgrounds gig too. It was awesome. I remember MacGowan coming out at saying "it's like fucking Burma...." And I don't ever expect to see anybody doing the Chuck Berry duck walk with an accordion again... wenley I value that show because Nashville ain't the most obvious s...

Re: Guitar Players: Most Overrated Solo
i hate all the guitars in Layla. in fact, i don't like most of clapton's stuff, unless George Harrison was telling him what to do. While I'll admit that the wailing by Clapton and Duane Allman on the coda to "Layla" is a bit unstructured, it still seems to capture the pain one might feel if one was...

Re: Finally finished my album! Check it out...
Dudes, I have to confess something: That was almost exactly like the shirt I wore for my high school junior portrait picture. But I was all into Kurtis Blow, Whodini, UTFO, and Newcleus, too, so... However, I never rocked the jheri curl. Just a rat tail. And I never slayed that boatload of gash, eit...

long as we're braggin, wing's got me by 20 bucks, but I got mine off eBay for 100, and turns out the seller was a used gear store just up the street form me -- no shipping!
Loving it, by the way, although I haven't recorded through it yet.

Re: cool show - off topic
The only thing I have to say about it is that I'd love to go -- You wanna come pick me up? I'll be in Davis Square in Somerville, standing next to the T stop.
Sounds like a fun time. Hell, maybe I can hitch a ride with somebody with wheels and find a place to crash. I'll look into it.

Re: the pogues..........perfection!
agreed. I saw them in London, and I saw them at the TN State Fairgrounds racetrack in Nashville, too, Prince. That show was during pissing down rain, with about 150 people who abandoned the grandstands and danced before the stage getting soaked. Stage was covered, but they still squeegeed it after e...

Re: Recommend a Utilities disk for me
Anybody willing to post some details as to why Disk Warrior is better than Disk Warrior or vice versa? I've checked noth out online. Tech Tool Pro says that some part of their product is actually bundled by Apple with new machines. This may be a good endorsement, or just a deal between the two compa...

Recommend a Utilities disk for me
I am finally gonna buy one of these things. I have some experience with Norton, and their newest suite is around $100. TO search revealed two others I might consider: Tech Tool Pro and Disk Warrior. Comments on these or others welcomed! I have a G4 running OS 9.2 and no plans to go OSX at the moment...

Re: Hardcore promotion of an Indie Band. HOW???
On the other hand I've seen bands that I know don't lift a finger to promote themselves or tour or anything get great gigs and instant followings because a member is related to someone in a band signed to Geffen or whatever. Yes, of course this happens. So? Does that mean that if you aren't in that...

Re: Hardcore promotion of an Indie Band. HOW???
Every single band started out by playing ill-attended shows in crap rooms to few people. This is simply not true. I guess there are exceptions. Still, I feel it's a largely accurate statement. I do still believe that bands succeed largely on the strength of the music and hard work, but it still tak...

Re: Hardcore promotion of an Indie Band. HOW???
I swear, it's not that hard to get to know one of the writers at a rag like the Rocket or the Stranger. Do it on a personal level, they are out all the time anyway. Then turn them on to your band. They may know how to get you a Tuesday night show at the Off-Ramp. It's been awhile since you've been ...

Re: Hardcore promotion of an Indie Band. HOW???
I can really only agree up to a point. Playing out a lot can put some bucks in your pockets and win you fans, but it's who you know and the elusive "cool" factor that get you writeups and good gigs. Playing out a lot, as important as it is in becoming tight as a band, has little to do with it. I re...

Brandon Drury -- http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=9951 this thread is about radio, but it touches on issues you should be aware of. Hope you post again to this thread, answer some of the questions posed and stuff. I'd like to hear more. Promoting a band is always food for thought. With...

Re: Hardcore promotion of an Indie Band. HOW???
1 - hire a radio promoter 2 - hire a media promoter 3 - after 4-6 weeks of radio campaign hire booking agent to tour around success 4 - hire media person to lead the tour 5 - realize there's got to be a better way to throw away large sums of money and life. good luck :) I'm assuming there's some ch...
