Re: Recording Schools Boston
When I first moved to Boston, I had thoughts about taking an engineering course myself. I was in the Back Bay, and the Berklee kids were everywhere. I checked the place out, and talked to some acquaintences who went there. Now, Berklee is a good school for certain things, and (I think) a total waste...

Re: How do the big studios do it?
I know a guy in Nashville who gets contracted by labels to book full days of 10-min. radio interviews for country artists. They plunk Toby Keith down in front of a mic and he takes phoners all day long from all over the place. About a year ago my friend was stressed out because the studio he always ...

Re: Is there such thing as a "demo" anymore?
It seems a bit dicey to me to try to define any term like "demo" in such a narrow way as Prof. does, with due respect. I agree with much of what has been said already in response to his first post. I've seen threads recently on this board and others that tried to define "punk", and although those th...

Re: Someone please define for me: Southern Harmony
Where and in what context have you seen this term used? When I read our post, I immediately thought of bluegrass and gospel. Bluegrass, of course, defines its sound largely on the vocals, that high-lonesome harmony thing. I'm not sure the intervals are much different that most, it's just the relativ...

Re: NewYorkDave says...
NYD -- I just started posting here again, so you may not recognize my moniker, but I have been on this board on and off for a good while. I usually just read it, because I don't have a whole lot of the kind of tech expertise that you do, the kind that is most in-demand. Now and then I ask a question...

Heartfelt tribute to Laci Peterson in song!
I hope somebody I know gets slaughtered by his/her mate so I can feel legit in writing a tribute tune like this one. Elton and Bernie, watch your backs. http://www.modbee.com/images/sections/rememberinglaci.html If anybody knows this guy, ask him what casio presets he used. I've been up all night an...

Re: Favortie Mellotron Moments
well, this is kinda pointless to mention as it's unlikely anyone else will have heard it but....i was recently editing some live stuff for a band called club d'elf, for these shows they had john medeski playing keys....he takes a loooooong mellotron solo in this one tune that was absolutely some of...

i-room,
what a cool rockin' lil' ditty. And the mic seems to do its job trashily and with grace.
And I can think of about a bajillion long-ass, overblown songs that wish they could make their point so well. Kudos

Re: Digital 8-track boxes: Any With Effects Loop in/outs?
I dunno, steve3b1. Probably, but irrelevant to me -- I'm selling the 828 to help finance whatever I end up with. I know I'm going to sacrifice some quality and ability to expand by getting one of these things, but expansion is kind of the key to my problem -- too many variables and choices and I'll ...

Re: U2 (aka Bono vs. Toto)
Gotta post, gotta post... A friend in high school was always raving about this band U2. It was a pathetic little tobacco town in TN, so my exposure to them was limited to...well, him, basically. Him and whatever MTV play they got from "Pride", "New Year's Day", etc. I never paid much mind, don't kno...

Re: Name Dropping thread
I was cast in a VERY small part in a super-duper triple-B movie starring Dana Plato and Frank Stallone (who was quite good as 'Eddie" in "Barfly", actually) called "Lethal Cowboy". Shot at a dude ranch outside of Tucson, and the cabins were used for sets, storage, cast and crew, and one was the unis...

damn straight, markpar.
No perfume-strip ads, either. Although I guess that would be kinda weird for a recording mag, anyway. Still.
