hmmm
Take all of the resistors out of the amp. Resolder them in backwards. That won't do anything, but you will have a few hours of quiet while working on the amp. Seriously, try a different guitar. A different guitar cord. A different room. Guitar amps are noisy - they need all of that gain to sound rig...

1176 cases
I bought some really nice 1176 cases with laser engraving, etc from this guy:
Tat Purusha <tat>
Took a while to get them, and he's in Slovenia, but the cases are really nice and were not very expensive.
Unfortunately, I have not had time to put the comp together (yet...)

Be happy
Thanks Everyone. I am going to go with Seventh Circle this time. I like the idea of being able to add multiple different sounding pre's in one lunchbox. But I am planning on building the JFET Hamptone later on. Which then I'm sure will lead to the tube version. Give me $10,000 and send me back to 1...

Soundcraft...
Thanks for all the advice. I do really like soundcraft. If I could afford it right now I would probably get their M8 mixer. I was also looking at the compact 10. It has some very useful features, but no direct outs and only two busses. The spirit folio sounds like it might fall some where in betwee...

Fake tube...
Mike, what do you mean by fake tube circuit? You should check out 8th's thread with the samples of the Pro Channel and a few others. That's one of the places I got to hear the Pro Channel. I really like the idea of getting some new mics. I've loved the analogies on this board comparing a studio own...

Sorry to bash your pres!
8th note! The only ART I've owned has been one of those Dual MP tube thingys with the "fake" tube ciircuit, and it was complete junk. The pro channel may be great - I've never heard it!!! I guess what I am trying to say is that a single great mic and pre can totally improve everything you record - i...

OK Mr. Rambler....
You can ramble... Anyway, it would help to know what kind of instruments you are recording, and what style of music. But having said that, I think you kind of need to look at this as a long term building project - you are not going to solve all of your problems for $1000, but you might be able to pi...

Re: Used Console Shopping Torture
well... here goes. In the next 3-4 weeks hopefully, i'll be in the market for a used older analog board. I've pretty much set my mind on a soundtracs 24-32 channel board, mainly due to all i've read and the price at which these seem available- I'm looking to spend 1- $1500 on it, which seems feasib...

Re: EMT plate reverb
After hours of testing i have finally figured out that the EMT 140 plate reverb i just bought is in full working order except for the amp that runs the driver. After calling around the Philadelphia area i have been unable to find anyone willing to work on it. So basically i have decide that since t...

Multi-cans
If you decide you want to replace the cans, check antique electrical supply - www.tubesandmore.com and weber vst - www.tedweber.com. The one can that I got from Weber was defective, the ones I have used from AES have been fine. Plenty of other people have used the weber cans, and I am guessing the b...

Re: Question about Tascam br 20
I am borrowing a friend's Tascam br 20, 1/4" 2 track. I use it to mix down from my Tascam ms 16. I want to calibrate it but I can't find the pots to do it. I even took off the back panels. What gives? Anyone have an answer or a manual? Thanks I think you need to keep pulling panels until you find t...

yes....
I've built the mission 5e3, and it is fantastic. Top notch parts, beautiful cabinet, and great support from bruce.. I built mine with carbon comp resistors, MM output tranny, and a Weber alnico and it sounds perfect. I'm also working on a Weber 18 watt TMB, but unfortunately I'm stalled as he waits ...
