A great project for those that can't afford NEVE (or simply won't pay outrageous prices for them). Define outrageous prices. $1700 for unracked QE line EQ's? Seems to me that's about $1000 more than what they're going for. I guess people will buy anything extra discrete punchy warm super vintage.

In regards to the mystery black can, it's an opamp. It was called the A-1000. A Fairchild 709 IC with current boost transistors at the output. Ken Hirsch at Orphan Audio likely has info for you. He can be hard to pin down, but he'll get back to you eventually.

Graydon is a nice guy. The 18-watt market owes a lot to him. He's like the Gyraf of guitar amps. They are great sounding amps. But there are some more affordable alternatives. See these guys.
