Someone offered me one of these units cheep, are they any good. I would love to hear some feedback from other tape op'ers before I plunk down the duckets. the specs look cool but how does it sound ?

A client of mine gave me a set of wierd RCA mics that were used in a tape recorder set from the 50's- they look more like electric shavers-
anyway these mics get used so often its not funny. They get this great skwalky lofi thing, I usually plug em right into a champ amp and mike the amp-

I have the alesis 3630 and am curious-
I know I'm inviting ridicule but I really like the 3630 for strereo buss drum compression - I think it works remarkably well-

I have a 38 and there is NO disernable (sp?) difference between the 2 heads. just go with what works- Spiral is totally right, the tape crosses both heads at all times the lifters aren't engaged
