Almost any small (<16w) TUBE amp sounds great cranked up. I'll bet the tiny terror is great (I've heard it but haven't recorded it), but don't overlook other things you find. Hell, the epiphone 5w amp sounds great with a few very cheap and easy mods, is about $150 after modding, and they're both mad...

like if you took high-end gear on both sides wouldn't the analog sound better? granted you're playing them both on vinyl.
Maybe, but it doesn't matter. Economics trumps aesthetics. There's also no Easter Bunny.

East River Pipe and Dub Trio. I didn't like either one, but I learned a valuable lesson- ignore messageboard and magazine hype, even if it's from credible sources. Same goes for gear, actually.

Why do you want to pass DC in that part of the circuit?

I'm mixing an album in Reaper right now. Never liked DAWs very much - necessary evil- but Reaper is really easy to get around in, some of the included plug-ins are very functional, the tempo correction feature saved a take, and...well, I think I'm coming over to the dark side.

Oh sure, and I suppose you would like a shrubbery as some sort of reward....

One that looks nice.

And not too expensive.

Haven't built that, but I've built some of his modular synth boards. They are of varying quality...the oscillators and envelopes are fine, but the filters are hella noisy. The knob ranges are a bit quirky compared to dotcom stuff. Could be my lack of tech chops though.

I like tuning to be a choice. If "out" is deliberate, or just sounds good, fine. If it's from ignorance or laziness, I get annoyed. I guess I like musicians who are dedicated to their craft and not just making a racket for the sake of making a racket.

Maybe if you had an interface that doesn't pass DC you could take the blocking caps out? No, never mind, that's probably madness. But I have a behringer gathering dust...hmmm.......

You should be able to test your interface to see if it will put out DC (draw a full scale straight line in your daw, loop it, and check the output with a voltmeter). If that works you should be able to use volume automation to vary the DC voltage.

Topic: Lots of hiss - upgrade op-amps?

Thanks for the book recommendation scum. My power supply is a Blacet, the grounding system is solid, caps are new, and the resistors are 1% metal film. So I'm a little puzzled. A few of the opamps are providing a lot of the gain, so I'll target those for upgrade - they're in sockets so no problem, T...

Lots of hiss - upgrade op-amps?

My modular project is a river of hiss. It has a lot of garden-variety opamps (tl072, tl084 and similar). Should I look at upgrading those to reduce the background hiss or should I be looking in other areas?

My HD recorder has ADAT in/out. So does my computer. I could bus 8 channels from the computer to the channel dynamics/eq/fx sends and back into the computer, if I wanted to.

Is that what you mean? Sending the output of VST soft synths to the HD recorder and back?
