Re: nice mix, hhats too loud. help.

If you can, take out some of the mids. You probably won't need to do too much to it either. Hi hats hate mids. At least mine do.

If that doesn't work, maybe you can bury it in the mix. Like pan the hi hat closer to the guitar or keyboard or something. Just a thought.

Re: Deerhoof

I like the first song on milk man when the guitar comes in and does that little downward scale. It sounds a lot like the McGyver theme. And that is a great thing.

So here I am in the library an hour and a half before my music theory test and I don't have my book. I discovered it was missing late last night. Which is really great. I would just like to thank the assface that swiped my book for stealing my education from me. Thank you. Looks like i'm gonna have ...

I think the album has it's moments, but I really wish the melodies were more together. This had pote...

Re: poopy guitar sound

I thought it might be the amp, but it sounds like gold when I put my ear close to it. I'm running through an old mixer into a tascam 4 track, but i've been doing that for years without problems. I don't think the mic is messed up because it sounds fine singing into it, on a hi hat, etc. I messed wit...

poopy guitar sound

Lately when I record my guitar, it always comes out with this nasty crackly sound all over the high end. I'm using a 57 on my guitar cabinet, and it doesn't seem to like it very much. I've tried micing a foot or two from the cabinet and it still does it. I've tried messing with the EQ. I've tried po...

Suggest a good boundary mic?

I want something to really pick up the way my room sounds.

Has anyone used the crown ones?

Re: mixes that blow your mind.....

M. Ward - The Transfiguration of Vincent That album blows me away everytime I listen to it. The guitars sound like they're in the room with me. Everything is really clear, but really warm and cozy. It doesn't hurt that he's a fantastic songwriter either. Kid A is pretty awesome too. Stereolab - Cobr...

Re: good cheap drums - advice?

My drumset was found in an unheated garage in the middle of january out on a moutain in the middle of nowhere. Seriously. With a little tlc and some new drum heads, they sound really great. I was really scared that the drums would warp in the car ride back, but fortunately they didn't. Now that I th...

Re: live sound dilemma - cello in rock act

I got a piezo pickup and wired it to a 1/4 in jack. Then I ran that through an old Neptune EQ (it's like 8 bands) and into whatever amp is the closest. It cuts through really well, and her viola sounded great. You could do that with any stringy instrument like that. I played with this 1 piece noise ...

Re: The Necessity of Compressors?

I've been recording stuff for the last 2 years or so, and i've never even touched a compressor. Now, thats not to say that i'm not interested in one, i've just never had the money to get one really. Usually when I get enough money to get a compressor, I wind up buying a microphone, or most often tha...

woops... I just wasn't holding it long enough. heh.

It sounds like a million bucks! The reverb on it is nice and deep. I still can't believe he gave me the organ.

Thanks everyone!

Hammond M 101 Organ - Turns on, but no sound!

My friend gave me his grandmothers Hammond M 101 Organ last week. It looks amazing, the thing is practically brand new...except for the fact that I can't get any sound out of it! It turns on, and theres a "start" and a "run" button. I let it warm up, and I can hear the speakers come on, but no sound...
