Re: Buying first outboard comp: RNC, or VLA?
Hmmm... nobody mentioned distortion concerns with the RNC... yet. In other words, the gain make-up in the RNC can add some. But, if you can deal with that very small concern and get your gain elsewhere (preamp), I agree with everything that's already been said... The RNC is a very, erm... rea...

Is this what you have?

Looks like there is both an FX send and a stereo FX return on the back of the unit.
You're all set, dude.

Re: Oktava ML52 mods-
Here's a cool idea - if anyone has some hosting space, I'll do a before and after recording of a few different things like guitar, overheads, etc. through an RNP (everyone seems to have heard this, so it would be a decent test). That way, those that are wary about the improvement can hear for thems...

Re: diy mics - big fun for all!
OK, yeah... Thanks! I've just been testing with my voice and a couple of acoustic instruments. I'll try putting it in front of a twin reverb. That ought to do it.
BTW - Those Transound capsules were from a group buy at micbuilders? Any more available? Who supplies/sells them?
Thanks

Re: diy mics - big fun for all!
Hey Scodiddley - IIRC, you're using (sort of) Linkwitz modded WM-61A capsules, shell connected to ground? Can you really hear any difference compared to a stock, un-modded capsule? I guess the reason for doing the mod is to reduce distortion, yes/no? But, I've got myself some WM-61A capsules and I'm...

Re: "Mixing on headphones?" and other monitor-rela
I think someone (sorry, forget who) mentioned this at TapeOpCon... Look at how many people are listening to music on headphones these days (lots!). Compare that to the number of people who even own a boombox, let alone actually listen to their music on it (not me!). Something's going on here that ma...

Re: dbx 160 vs new dbx
I got a 119 for $50 and it's my fretless bass secret weapon. Also great for dub. Not good for subtle compression. Oh yeah! I recently picked up a pair of 118's for about ~$50 each, too. Here's one of them... Very cool, "old school" sounding, to me. Not transparent. Colorful in a real nice way. :D A...

Re: Modifying / Repairing / Improving effects pedals?
I don't really know anything about that Tokay pedal, but you might be able to extend the delay time by adding a resistor in series with the delay time pot (that is, if it has a delay time pot :o ). Also, if you are able to trace where the signal path splits, one side to the delay other side to outpu...
