Re: Frank Black's live to 2-Track beauties

heh heh, oh. charles. frank. got it. thanks. yes, with the engineer(s) preferably. maybe with frank as well cause the band being ready would seem to have a large part in it and I'd like to hear about that as well. Anyone have any other live to 2-track stuff to recommend? mostly curious about live to...

Re: Frank Black's live to 2-Track beauties

Thanks for the insight Joel. Does this mean you're volunteering to interview frank and charles for the next tape op? Agreed about the quality and patience of the musicians. I suppose thats 90% of it. I'm assuming vocals are in a booth and they're using headphones but I'm not sure and that's just the...

a third for the fx90. I just got one off ebay and love it. I'm using it mostly in-front of my headrush for loopingfreakoutbullshit.

Re: Creating soft synths?

i'd go check out www.kvr-vst.com and see what's available. synth edit is pretty amazing and for that measily 20 bucks, you can load it as a vst in whichever program you're using. call me crazy but I think one of the things that sounds so bad ass about a bent sk1 is that it is only one sample that ge...

Re: Is there something inherently wrong with Fruity Loops

I dont use cubase so I'm not exactly sure but it should appear as a vsti in your vsti menu. it should lock to cubase's clock. you might need to force cubase to rescan for plugins or worse, you might need to reinstall fruity loops. also, I think it's need to be FLstudio 4 or above.

Re: Ableton Live or Adobe Audition?

live is definately more fun and the interface is really superb. just curious, why not just spend a little money on the fxpansion VST>DirectX adapter. way cheaper than buying a new program and all of your vsts (synths and effects) will work in acid. seems cheaper and if you like acid already your goo...

Re: Is there something inherently wrong with Fruity Loops

agreed, if you're happy with the sound, there's nothing to wonder about. to me, fruity does sound a little thin but it can be beefed up thanks largley to the fishphones plugs! there is an amazing amount of possibilites with the software + some good samples but I mostly use it as a drum machine on st...

Re: Two channel microphone USB interfaces for laptop recordi

if you want to use protools, you could get an M-Box for around 450. it's a pretty good deal as it comes with the software. sonar is cool and flexible. one of the cheaper cakewalk homestudio packages should work well while you get started. there is a tascam 2 channel box out for around 200. it's a ni...

Re: seeking computer wisdom!

I stinking hate pro-tools but something has to be said for the compatability since it's everywhere. if you have a 1" 16 track you might want to be sure that you end up with 16 inputs for easy bouncing. a fast PC with an 002 rack and one of those 8 channel mic pres>adat is doable for under 4000. a g5...

Re: Cakewalk Home Studio XL Questions.....

the help file should explain it pretty well. I'm not trying to be board snide, but you'll likely find a more thorough explanation there than here. I dont know how different home studio is from sonar but here's the basic deal in sonar: insert>DXI synth if the options box comes up, select 'midi source...

Re: What does your waveform look like before mastering?

was it dave friedman who said if the mastering engineer has to sonically augment his mixes, he didn't do a good job? I shouldn't go around half quoting people but there it is. I'm assuming he uses mix bus compression and delivers -1 or so masters to the mastering house. I only mention it becuase whi...

Re: Using the Alesis DM5 on already recorded tracks

pardon the simple questions but are you sure you have the snare bussed to the dm5 properly? you can check your cable by pluggin it into something with meters. is the sound loud enough to trigger the dm5? it's just a trigger sound so you dont care what it sounds like before it goes out. if you need t...

Re: Frank Black's live to 2-Track beauties

yeah, I love the vibe on the records as well - it actually sounds like a band! it sounds nice and tight and nice and loose - like a good band orta. beyond that, all of the sounds are great, the vocal levels are great, everything is super distinctive... I'm just wondering how they go about making tho...

Re: Replacement FX - General Use in Home Studio

I'm sounding like a broken record here but an alesis quadraverb2 is plenty fun and plenty cheap. It's no quieter than the effect units you mentioned though. dont forget noise adds up. a synth or an effect unit or a single channel on your mixer may not be noisey but when you send 5 synths through fiv...

Re: What reverb units are good for recording?

I've never heard a lexicon in my life so I dunno about those but from my budgo seat in the world, I like the alesis quadraverb 2. they're cheap on ebay and do a pretty damn good job. plus, tons of internal routing for general fucking up of things. Re-amping across a big room is fun/cheap too. Will
