Business entities for studio work
What's the best way to run your operations if you're a small, one-person shop? LLC? Sole prop? I'm in WA state, if it matters. And I have my own space; I don't rent/work out of other studios, and I don't travel to other states to record (yet, anyway).

Best place for low-volume, hi quality vinyl?
I have never actually made a "record" in my life, and I'm 48. It's always ended up on CD or some digital medium. How does one go about getting actual LP records made? I'm sure the per unit price is high, but is there a best way/best place? This is a 45-minute album.

Re: Sound Toys Little Plate
I just wrapped up a rock record on which the "default" reverb send for every song was Little Plate. I felt like I was cheating, but it sounds so good. There were a couple occasions where a different reverb was called for, and I used UA plugins for those, but Little Plate is the sound of the record.

Vocal panning approaches
Curious how different people approach panning vocals in a stereo mix. I usually center the lead and pan the harmonies left and right, but not too far out. Maybe halfway. If they feel too "separate," I'll pain them closer to center. What do you do?

Re: Percussion session today - HELP
It went well. The artist actually opted to use a lot of the time on backing vocals, so we didn't dig into the percussion as much as I thought we would. Next time, we will. For the shaker I used a Cascade Fathead (passive) ribbon mic, which worked nicely.

Percussion session today - HELP
OK, so I've recorded the stray shaker here and there but have never done a full day of percussion tracking (tamborine, claves, shaker) on an entire record. So I'm appealing to the collective mind here for advice. I have a small but versatile array of mics -- LDCs, SDCs, dynamics, even a Cascade ribb...

Good place to get mics serviced?
I recently bought a (non matched) used pair of AKG C414 B-ULS mics. One sounds great with no issues. The other has a noticeably weaker output and is noisier. It doesn't sound bad -- I recorded a couple of backing vocal tracks with it after upping the preamp gain -- but it isn't in the same league as...

Smart cable hanging solution?
I have a fairly small space with a lot of traps on the walls. I have about a 4'x3' space where I'd like to hang some cables and maximize density. Something that doubled as a diffusor or trap would be killer. Any suggestions?

Re: Echoboy vs Echoboy jr
I have both and use them a lot. The Junior probably sees more time, but I don't usually get real deep into delay. When I want to, Sr. is there. They both sound great.
What I'm interested in is the comment about applying pre delay to reverb sends... I did not know this trick. Please explain further!

Voltage: How much is too much? Do I need a regulator?
The power in my space is pretty clean and reliable but it comes in hot... like ~127. Do I need to spend a thousand bucks on a voltage regulator? I sure would rather buy a mic, but ya know.

15 amp vs. 20 amp breakers for studio
I'm mostly ITB and don't have a ton of outboard gear, so I figured it's best to run everything off of a single circuit. My electronics knowledge is pretty limited. I have both 15 and 20 amp breakers available in my space. Is there a "better choice," and if so, why?

Re: Best vocal mic under 2K?
I am very curious about the Warm mics as well. They seem to get really good reviews, and lots of people are buying them. Just today I ordered a matched pair of TZ Audio Stellar X2 Vintage mics after reading the Tape Op review. I do not have a matched pair of LDCs and can't spend a bundle, so we'll s...

44 or 48 or 96?
I'm sure this topic has been beat to death here, but I'd welcome opinions. I track through a newer UA Apollo and I've experimented a bit, but usually go back to 44.1KHz. Reading the TapeOp interview with Rich Chycki made me wonder if I should start tracking with higher sample rates. But it's still g...
