Are you really joking?

I'm looking for opinions on that too. I have never used anything BUT protools and I will be upgrading my DAW soon. Considering a PC with Sonar, but might go with a Digi002 and PT7 on my mac. Is this -- along with other inconveniences -- enough of a reason to move away from Protools? Not sure.

Just bounce internally into a stereo track in ProTools when you're doing your final previews to the client. Export the bounced mix in the region list when you're done. Voila. How do you do this? I'm not sure how to bounce the entire mix to a stereo track (in the same PT session I'm assuming?) in a ...

In the market for a new DAW: Apple or PC?

I imagine this question has been posted here a million times, but I have to ask it. Time is coming near to replace my trusty 1.2G G4/Digi001/PT6.4 setup. And I wanna upgrade everything, so now is the time to change anything I want to change. I guess the driving question behind Mac or PC is the DAW i...

Bouncing to disk in ProTools LE 6.4 - Why is it real time?

I have what I hope is a stupid question. I am currently using a Digi001 and ProTools LE 6.4 because that is the most recent version that will still work with the 001. It works just fine, with one frustration (aside from the inability to upgrade). When I bounce sessions down to 16 bit files for burni...

NS10m's

So it has come time to give my monitoring setup a little love, and I'm wondering if a used pair of NS10M's (no longer available from Yamaha of course) off of ebay and a power amp would be the best way to go. I chiefly mix and master classic-ish rock, bluegrass and jazz -- very rarely classical. Just...

connecting XLR cables together

I know that its recommended to use balanced connections for signals traveling long distances, but most of my XLR cables are 20' or less. Usually I just connect 2 together, but I have heard rumor that this is undesirable. Would the sound quality be better using a 40' XLR cable than using two 20 foote...

Re: Mac defragmenting question

What about defragging drives in OS 9.2? I'm a PC guy traditionally and just got this G4 to run protools ... i'm already finding myself recording (and deleting) some huge files, and i know my drives are going to get fragmented quickly. Does all this stuff apply to 9.2 as well as OSX, or is defragging...

Digital Performer to Protools LE-converting sessions/tracks?

I have a potential client who has a project halfway done in Digital Performer at some other studio. He would like to finish it at my studio, and I'm using Mac OS 9.2/Protools LE 5.2. What is the best way to "convert" the tracks? Is there any easy way? I'm hoping I can just go to this other guy's stu...

TRS vs. XLR

I am trying to figure out what the difference is, if any, between a signal coming out of a TRS balanced 1/4" output and that coming out of an XLR out. I know that XLR is a low impedence, balanced connection that is supposed to be a +4 signal, whereas a "normal", unbalanced 1/4" connection sends a -1...
