Re: Purple Audio
Soundguy, I'll start by saying I usually respect your opinions and as a side note I realize you have far more 'technical/design' knowledge than myself. I often rely on the advice and knowledge of my trusted manufacturers (and those companies respected designers) to advise me on design related issues...

Re: New OSA (Old School Audio) Promotion!!!!
It's more remeniscent of something like a 1290/1073 in frequency curve (completely by accident, it's a bit 'faster' obviously being that it's class A/B). nathan, are you suggesting that class a/b circuits by nature are "faster" than class a circuits, by nature? just curious. Maybe it's slew rate, m...

Re: New OSA (Old School Audio) Promotion!!!!
Awesome, Thanks for the response. I couldn't remeber if people sold things last year or not. I'm looking forward to demoing some great units though!!! We'll have both the new compressors and possibly one EQ there also. Definitely stop by the booth, it's nice to meet people from the forums face to f...

Re: Vintech 473 vs the X73i
The preamp section (and the 12khz shelf) sound identical on the Vintech 473 and the Vintech X73i, they null exactly and in casual listening tests cannot be distinguished from each other. They have the same circuit and transformers, so there shouldn't be any reason for differences. I think the answer...

Re: New OSA (Old School Audio) Promotion!!!!
At the Tape Op Con besides demoing your gear, are you going have it for sale also? I wasn;t sure last year but it didn;t seem like people we're buying thigs as much as just listening? For me personally I'm going to buy a few things that weekend so I just wondered. I'm not sure what the Tape Op poli...

Re: New OSA (Old School Audio) Promotion!!!!
Nathan, I have a pair of the MP1-L's (with only the input trim control, no output gain control). I was wondering how they are next to the new MP1-L3. Thanks, Jason The L's sound to my ears like they have an extension in the top and bottom frequencies. Making the middle sound a little scooped and cl...

Re: New OSA (Old School Audio) Promotion!!!!
I love my 3 MPI-A pres I got from you. Any ETA on the new compressors from OSA? Later, m Realistically I think they will be ready by the Tape Op show in June. The goal is to have both the Opto LA-4 style, and the VCA SSL bus style done by June 10th, possibly with the solid state passive Pultec Styl...

New OSA (Old School Audio) Promotion!!!!
Hi all,
We have a new OSA promotion brewing starting immediately. Here's the scoop....
Buy any 4 OSA preamps and one of either OSA rack (TrkPack or PwrRack) and get $100 off the bundle.
Already have a powered rack?
Buy any 5 OSA preamps and receive $100 off the bundle.
Thanks!

Re: Ampex mm-1200 sound
I've got a MM1200 2" 16 track, and a Ampex ATR 800 1/4" two track which was an Ampex designed machine made in Japan (and the last machine they ever made). Some people are really down on the ATR 800, and some say it was the best machine Ampex ever made in the way of electronics. I've compared the two...

Re: OSA or any external pre questions - help!
would really llike to find out if I'm doing something wrong. I have never had to use Balanced 1/4" before and don't know if I have something set up wrong. A post on another site recomended that I try the 1/4" effect return as my input not the mic / line input. That will bypass the Q10 pres but I do...

Re: OSA or any external pre questions - help!
Hi Will, Where was the gain setting specifically on the OSA? If it was in the lower regions, below 40db, the preamp will stay very clean. Part of the beauty of this type of design is that you have the ability to saturate the transformer to find a really nice sweet spot on where the preamp shines nic...

Re: Please help if you can: Looking for somewhere to start..
Jackie, My advice to you is to try not to over specialize. I love punk, indie, HC, etc, but it's not all I record, because as an engineer (and this is just my opinion) it is my job to love the craft above and beyond the music that I'm recording. Getting the sounds, choosing the mics, blending the in...

Very weird, I posted that on the "things not to name your studios" thread. ...sorry for the non sequitur.

"Fix it in the Mix Studios"
