Re: That Nick Drake Guitar Sound
Yeah, I just picked up a pair of re10s and have been using them to record acoustic guitar. I've been pretty pleased with the results. Really cool tone on those mics. I think I like them better than 57s. Any other use for them?

Re: reverb...
Yeah I'm not a big trueverb fan; realverb altiverb and z-room are all better, imho. I've been using z verb, mainly cause the reverb sounds "warmer" to me, although even that sound gets annoying after a while. Thinking about trying out a decent outboard reverb.

Re: What would you buy next...?
Better mics, maybe Large diaphragm dynamics and ribbons too.
Better mics pres as well. Maybe a good outboard converter, although the stock ones on the MOTU are bad I hear.

Re: Another buy my stuff thread...
You could always keep the 002, and then look around for a used, but decent quality 2 track 1/4", like one of those revox a77 or 67s and so forth. They're relatively cheap, and you could probably pick one up for around 200, plus an addition 2 or 3 hundred to get it refurbished. That way you could at ...

Emailing protools files
I know this is probably super basic, so basic in fact that I didn't even realize I had no idea how to email wav files until a week ago. Any way, if any one could help, I've got three questions actually: Is it worth paying for the extra protools program that allows you to bounce a session to disk as ...

Re: How do get a midi track to play through my monitors?
thanks for the advice. I've got a digi001. I think you were pretty mcuh right. After digging for an hour or so through the digidesign user's conference, I finally realized that i had to have something play the midi recordings back on; unfornately I don't have a module, or a cheap sound card. But I g...

How do get a midi track to play through my monitors?
So after avoiding the midi thing for over three years, I finally got a keyboard and tried to lay down a midi track on protools. Everything works fine, at least visual-wise; I can see the signal coming in on the midi track and it records as well. The only thing is that the midi track won't play back ...

Stuff for sale or trade
1. tascam 688 midi studio 20 channel mixer, 8 track cassette recorder. 2. Revox A67 reel to reel recorder. 3. Demeter VTMB-2b tube pre amp. Everything's in great shape. I'm looking for a lot of sm57s, and large diaphram dynamics, sm7s, re20s. Open to other trades as well. I'm in the LA area.

Re: Direct box/DI unit - what do I look for when buying one?
The demeter rules. It's almost too good. Since my mike collection suck, the bass is the best sounding thing in the mix, which is a little weird. Like getting thousand dollars rims for my 87 chevalier.

I've been using a blue dragonfly for overheads and I like it a lot. Lots of highs and lows, altough that could just be the tube pres that I'm using.

Re: Getting a good performance out of a shy/mumbling vocalis
I don't know if someone has already mentioned this or not, but, if the singer is a friend of yours, you might try setting everything up for him to record, show him which buttons to press and then leave him alone to experiment with his voice or whatever he needs to do. Go and get a sandwich. A more c...

Re: A philosophical question on compression
In terms of plug-ins, i would guess that plugins that model specific classic compressors are supposed to impart some sort of color that's characteristic of whatever the gear. The problem supposedly is that like all analog equipment -- every 1176, for instance -- will sound different from each other....
