BASF/Emtec 911 was bias compatible with 456 and reportedly of similar sound, though it had its fans and detractors. I'll bet that's the formulation. 900 will be ATR's +9 forumula.

I think it's a cool mic, I'd like to own one. But I would not call it a dark mic, as requested by the initial poster. Some great mics have that presence boost and brightness that will disqualify them for this thread, one of my faves, the M-88, being a case in point.
