Yeah...this is what I suspect will be the reality of the situation.

So it seems like the answer right now might be some combo of control surface (that features faders and transport controls) and self-discipline about turnin the screen off.

DAW minus the screen. Anyone working this way?

I think this is the appropriate forum for this question... So, for the past 3-4 years I've been living a double-life. In one life, I do a lot of writing/composing/programming for corporate clients. By necessity this part of my work has become more and more based in Logic. Originally I started by try...

The closest I've come is to take some drumming recorded to 2" and cut it up semi randomly (the cuts were on drum transients, but not systematic) and essentially mix them up in a hat and splice them back together randomly to make a multi track tape loop. It turned out pretty cool and became the basis...

lemme ax you guys this: how do you go about changing up your normal shit? 1. Change your instrument options...different drums, put a really different sounding snare where you rack tom is, no hi-hats, no cymbals, hold a shaker or a tambourine, or something in your hands while you play, etc... If the...

And then there was the time I ran across "All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix." I'm the house drummer for an open stage every Tuesday. There's a TERRIBLE guitar owner (not really a player) who calls it a Hendrix song, and I'd bet dollars to donuts he has no clue Dylan wrote it. He sings the fi...

Maybe you should bust out a razor and learn how to splice. I haven't done any editing yet, personally. There's an old trick of splicing in a piece of leader where the super tight punch out is. You rerecord the problem area and the stop the deck when you hit the leader, then remove the leader. Despe...

I've always enjoyed Avast!, but I've always worked there with an outside engineer. I haven't recorded there since they re-did their B room, but it looks great and I hear good things from reliable sources. Super cool consoles. http://www.avastrecording.com/ Studio Litho is excellent. They've somewhat...

I've gotten so much from the TOMB in the last few years...it's ridiculous.

Hey Kenny, I have the Factory and I'm really satisfied. I have used the software pretty extensively (not always with the keyboard) and I think it sounds really good and is generally inspiring. It's not about deep programming, but having a large selection of casually tweekable sounds to browse. The q...

Where'd they find a singing tiger anyway?
I'm guessing somewhere in Romania.

Thanks, Chris...I love these kind of details. I was specifically referencing Boris for the snare sound, but I was digging the tones across the board. Looking forward to getting to listen to the whole thing.

Chris,

This stuff is super cool. I particularly like the snare sound...sort of hollow and "thwocky" in a really appealing way. I like the rack tom "klang" as well. Can you talk about the drum setup and how they were recorded?

Thanks!
