Re: Very small amount cd duplication companies?

http://www.yourmusiconcd.com have been around since the days of Edison's wax cylinders and can do 100 CDs for $200; they're fast and they do a good job.

Re: Quantegy closes its doors

I feel your pain, but to tell the truth I like digital hard drive recording for a number of reasons: 1. It sounds good even if you're not a maintainence pro. 2. It's a LOT cheaper than 2" tape. I bought one reel of that stuff once and when I saw how much recording time I got off of it, I immediately...

I'm in the middle of doing a cover album of his vocal songs. They're great. Anyone comparing you to Eno is giving you a compliment.

I thought you won it? Why the $50 price tag? ;)

Re: Have you calmed down from the election yet?

I'll never calm down from the election. Calming down means accepting the fact that 51% of US voters would vote Hitler in if he came off as a conservative. The blood is on my country's hands. I will never get over that, and neither will the rest of the world. We are now officially "the bad guys", and...

Re: How much is too much when it comes to Hard Drive space?

I've got four drives from 100 to 200 gigs in my mac now, and I haven't noticed any difference in performance with any of them. Of course, when they crash, THAT'S an issue. But I honestly don't think you have anything to worry about. Most of the stories about exactly what to do where are unverifiable...

Re: How do I learn to sing good?

Learn to listen to yourself sing. The greatest vocal teacher in the world can't help you if you're not paying attention to what's there. Once you listen with an open ear (maybe by playing back tapes of yourself), you'll be halfway on the road to vocal greatness. Then you can find a teacher to take y...

Re: How much is too much when it comes to Hard Drive space?

From a purely non-technical point of view, too much hard drive space makes you lazy about backing things up.

I doubt there's any other drawbacks, though.

Re: Final Mixdowns with a DAW... what are YOU doing???

I'm not looking for a flame war here or anything, but what the heck could possibly be bad about just bouncing to disc? If you have a Master fader on your song, you can tell if you've overloaded the buss. I leave my master fader at 0 db and adjust the individual tracks accordingly. Sending it out thr...

Re: HELP!!! Weird clicking noise with optical gear!

MMC can sync up your equipment so that it all runs together at the same tempo with synchronized beats/bars (and it does this well), but it doesn't sync up the digital word clock. You may be using digital equipment (synths, samplers, digital portastudios) but if you're using the analog outputs, you'r...

Re: Exit Strategy- Iraq

I'm from a blue state. This isn't my war. In fact, I'm one of those intellectual liberals from Massachusetts (gasp!) who reads too much. I guess that makes me one of the US Government's enemies. The only thing I can do now is to try to talk the kids in my classes out of joining the ROTC (it's an urb...

Re: Girl Groups: Story Of A Sound

I have the old laserdisc. Is this a new DVD release of it? It's a great documentary, chock full of EXCELLENT performances from the late fifties and early sixties. They also have a documentary called "Rock And Roll - The Early Days" that's actually even better. (and a correction: Ronnie Spector WAS h...

Re: George Harrison Vibrato/chours effect on Don't Let Me Do

From what I remember of the film, he's plugged directly into a Fender Twin Reverb. I don't even think chorus effects were available at the time. If anything, he may have routed the guitar through the Leslie during mixdown, but I don't remember hearing this on the original mix. I'll have to give the ...

Re: power conditioners? opinions?

The do-hickey is something you'd have to ask the salesman for. Just tell him you want to test the wiring of your electrical outlets and does he have a little thing that plugs into the socket and has red, green and yellow lights on it that tell you how it's wired. Sorry I can't be of more help, but h...
