For most of the stuff that Musician's Fiend and the like carry, if I can't get it locally, 8th Street in Philly is my choice. Usually will match prices, and seem more service oriented. It can be fun pitting GC against MF, since they are the same company underneath.

Pretty much everyehere. If I'm someplace new, I try to check out the stores.

Two things:

Stick with your small amps, but run them through a real bass cab, 1x15" or so.

Or, try the currently available MXR Bass DI+. I've gotten some very decent sounds through one.

And if they are electronic little toys, hold them near guitar pickups.

There seems to be some problems with the availability of the 8T. The dealer I'd spoken to, who assured me he had one in stock to test drive, turned out to have had one that was shown at AES, which was taken back from him. He did allege that the eq was the same as the dream, and tried to get me to te...

I really do not understand why mesa amps are getting slagged so frequently of late. Sure the numetal chugging thing is pretty tired, but that's the players, more than teh amp itself. Most mesa products are so flexible that players never really get even half the tones they are capable of. Beyond that...

Depends on the maker for the timeline. 73 or so Plymouths had significant chunks of the ignition cast into a block of plastic. No fix, just replace. About that time the extra pipes for the emission controls also started to multiply. At times I miss our 62 Valliant. I used to be able to fix telephone...

I have the 24io also and really like it. if finances are an issue you can make interest free payments through American Musical Supply, that's what I did and it allowed me to get going with out having to wait until I saved the entire sum. Eddie It's less a matter of basic finances than of looking in...

Why do you need so many more outs than ins? I'm looking at using the computer mostly like a tape deck. I have a mixer and outboard that I like, or will upgrade. Much of what I do involves overdubbing a few sources at a time, so inputs can be easily reused. When it comes to the outputs, I'd prefer t...

It's simply gotten harder to get at much of this stuff. Most electronic stuff I open up these days has a single huge block of silicon, with a few extra parts hanging off. That's assuming I can open something without destroying it, in the first place. Cars went teh same way. I sort of understood carb...

MOTU io24 equivalents, better? Cheaper?

Starting to consider getting lots of channels in and out, though mostly out of my computers. The 24io core system will do the trick. Is there anything similar that I should also be looking at? Mainly want the outputs, since with what I use the computer for, I can live with inputting a few channels a...

Read the manual at the Shure site. It tells you.
I not only checked the web site, but have the original paper manuals. Additionally, unlike the 545, it doesn't say high or low z on the mic.

Yup. Same mic, different colors. I think the pe54 is the same as the 544, which means the transformer has taps for low and high z, so you can swap a wire to make it low z, which essentially makes it an sm57. Or take out the transformer and put it in an altoids tin with two outputs, one for low z an...

Shure guru?

I recently picked up a couple of PE54. According to the documentation, the internal transformer brings them to high impedance. Since people have been buzzing lately about taking the transformers out of SM57, I am considering a similar surgery on the 54. Could I expect similar results?
