Re: cutting up snakes

im getting a snake and cutting off 8 xlr's and wiring TRS jacks- so they can go to my patchbay- I dont think snakes use foil. ( i hope not). You want to call redco and talk to someone there. TS neutriks are a buck apiece and 8 channel snake TGE wiring is super cheap- its 3 conductor and it 26 gauge ...

Re: Tascam 388 tapes - digital transfer

I aint in NY-Western MA but if you wanna send the tapes or take a small road trip we can do that- I just got the heads adjusted. Interesting side note- I just dumped my first song from the 388 to digi002 and it actually improves the quality of the source material. A lot of people complain about the ...

Re: the brotherhood of 388...

the guy whose 388 wont engage play mode, sounds like a fuse because thats what mine was doing when i bought it. I'm just about to record my second album on my baby- i've had her for two years and she has never done me wrong. What kind of tape are you folks using for this guy- I think 457 works best ...

Re: demistify the albini technique

I didnt think he recorded doolittle- But on "All Apologies" on the verses it sounds like he had a distant mic on the vocal gated and and opened by the loud parts (Everyone is gay, I dont have the right). Bowies guy and many other engineers do that. for the big drum sound I heard Albini would tape 2 ...

Fattening up guitar tracks whilst retaining phase goodness

Now i like my guitar tracks to be big, huge and heavy-sounding, in general this requires me to double a recorded guitar track and in protools I'll separtate the two tracks by a 10-50 milliseconds and then i'll pan one this way and the other that. This sounds keen until I switch to mono and lose the ...

Re: Patchbay questions

i kinda wanted to stay away from having it normaled or half normaled. I dont mind having to patch the bejesus out of eveything. I'm basically just wondering if i send a line level (aux send) signal of a phantom powered mic thru a patchbay and into outboard gear then into the recorder, would i be sen...

Re: Patchbay questions

No- my snake from the live room gets split up- not thru the patchbay(which is balanced- i just dont have any balanced pacthing cables yet), directly into 2 separte mixers- I wanted to go to tape using the preamps in the tascam or the A&H board- I was thinking of coloring the sound or adding effects ...

Re: Ween.Quebec.TheFuckedJam

not exactly a vocoder- they might have used a vocoder to get the basic effect, but there are envelopes in wierd places which vocoders can't do regularly, this would make the vocal qualities distortand be unrecognizable. If a vocoder was used, they probably ran what ever it was they were saying thru ...

Re: Ween.Quebec.TheFuckedJam

its got to be a modular synth set-up where the filter and/or modulation is controlled by the sounds your mouth makes, what's his name did the same thing with the sound for r2-d2 using an ARP synthesizer. Ben Burtt is his name i think. How's about that breakdown in the argus- ween rains coconuts on y...

Patchbay questions

Ok People- It seems as if someone at the tapeop office printed my query about patchbays , then low and behold, a few months later they printed an article on the subject. Damn I love tape op! here we go - I'm going to be tracking on the lovely Tascam 388 8 track mixer/ reel-to-reel. I will send those...

Re: tascam 388 no play function

same thing happened to mine-You need to call tascam and they will telll you to get a fuse or two replaced. They will guide you thru the instal hopefully, all you do is crack open the top metal plae and the fuses are right there. easy. they are slow blow 250 volt -1 1/4" x1/4" 3ag or MDL-type (3 amp)...
