Cool Beatles Pic....
Hi all.... When I was a kid I used to sit and stare at this pic for hours, tracing all the cables to see who was playing through what amp, checking out the back-up guitars, and wondering who the opening act was who was using the Dual Showman and piano... Cool pic, huh? Recording content: This was a ...

He was briefly mentioned in a recent article, but there needs to be an article documenting some of his techniques, attidudes, and wry sense of humor, which are all brilliant.

"IMHO Zeppelin really was the best live band."
"How the West Was Won" is an amazing listen...
I heard they took the sterile-sounding soundboards and lined them up with a bootleg audience tape??

I believe the 665 is a 666 with the highs and lows rolled off a tad??

Re: Thelonius Monk was crazy
I'm in the middle of this book right now just called "Monk". It's cool, because the author assumes that you already have a basic knowledge about the music and Monk, and goes from there... Highly recommended... The author has some great stories about Monk as a kid, and makes the point that Monk didn'...

When did they quit making the 545?
I found one not too long ago in a pawn shop that is unused and even smelled new...
Just curious as to how old it could be...

Re: what is the story/history with the Joe Meek gear?
Thanks to all for an interesting thread...
Ted (or anyone)...
Can you tell me about my Joe Meek "SC rev. 1.07" box, dated 1/7/98, serial #100640?
Is this indeed an early SC2 or ?...
Love the thing, by the way....
Thanks in advance...

Re: Ribbon Microphones
"How do you pros out there use them?" I ain't no pro, but I like to use ribbons on things that I'm having a hard time fitting into a mix... Pianos, many vocals (especially female), fiddles, hammered dulcimers (Marxaphones), toy pianos, lap steels, and drum OHs come to mind... Using a ribbon on some...

Re: Car Wheels on a Gravel Road
Check out "The Mountain" by Earle and the McCourys if you want to hear some serious compression in use on a bluegrass band... It's an interesting listen, and sounds like no other bluegrass recording I've ever heard... To get back on subject, "Car Wheels" has what I consider to be one of the best exa...

Oh, I forgot... Just about anything you need to know about mandolins can be found at the Mandolin Cafe Message Board ... Re: mandolin
It's totally possible to spend 250 bucks on a guitar and get something that sounds great on tape, but mandolins are probably the poster child for why one needs to throw money at an instrument in order to get something that sounds and plays good... That being said, there have been some recent Chinese...

Re: What we mean when we say "perfect kick sound"
The kick drum would be my #1 choice for instruments that suffer from digital recording... "The engineer who basically taught me most of what I know always said he liked kick drums to sound like a basketball hitting the floor" Funny... This is exactly how I describe what I don't like a kick to sound ...
