Tascam 488 Mk II help

I'm considering buying a second-hand 488 Mk II and am in the process of trying it out before deciding. The guy selling it doesn't really know anything about it. I'm having a couple of issues and can't decide whether the thing is broken or not: First of all, I can't record through channel 1 at all. T...

Yeah, Panda has a real thing for the 303s. He and Geologist use at least 2 each during AC shows.

I usually only reserve 2 of my 8 available tracks for drum beds, so its usually either a Yoga D112 clone on outside kick and a Rode NT2 for OH or the Rode on outside kick and a Realistic PZM or SDC on OH, depending on what I'm going for. On the rare occassion I'll sometimes stick a SDC or an AKG D77...

gsa, get on it! Closing date is August 10th! I don't know if I can wait that long. It's a 120-year old victorian house. The space in question used to be a summer kitchen or a breezeway to the stables that used to be attatched to the rear end of the house, I think. Its about 25x18 w/ a 10-12 foot va...

I will never part with my Fostex X-24. It sounds amazing to me. If you record with the varispeed all the way up you can barely notice any tape hiss (not that I mind it anyway). http://www.harmony-central.com/Events/SNAMM98/Fostex/X-24.jpg I don't think they make them anymore, though. EDIT: Here's a ...

I recorded my free improv trio (switching between guitar, piano, casio, trumpet, minidisc, floor tom, misc percussion) in January with a Radio Shack PZM on the floor between us and a Radio Shack/Optimus Omni duct-taped to a keyboard stand direct to a cassette four-track. Obviously not a precision op...

I use an original Kaoss Pad with my guitar all the time. I just use 1/4" to RCA adaptors. Signal fidelity is probably less-than-stellar, but if I'm using the Kaoss Pad in the first place I'm probably not really concerned about being an audiophile anyway. Sounds perfectly fine to me. It's been a whil...

I like pedals, too, but I often worry about ending up with 15 or 20 in my chain. Too much hassle/too many options. I usually keep it pared down to 3 or 4 (not including my volume pedal. I'm too poor to afford boutique pedals. I guess my most interesting one would be a Boss SF-1 Super Feedbacker and ...

I am saying that stuff like Wilco, Arcade Fire and other "big" but not "huge" bands are going through tape. You'd be wrong about the Arcade Fire amigo. this is incorrect. I'm not particularly a large Arcade Fire fan, but I've noticed them on the clients list for Hotel2Tango (an all analog studio), ...

I love my Fostex X-24 and wouldn't trade it for the world. No EQ or anything, but everything sounds so great on it.

I wouldn't hesitate to record an entire album on it if I had to. Cheap media!
