Here's a pic of the fabric that we've already got. I believe the lighter one is called "chart house"... Any opinion on these? We're still going out on Monday to look for different fabric... this might go into the "B" room. http://img476.imageshack.us/img476/7317/oldfabricshv7.jpg hmmmm. "the chartho...

Stay tuned... wood paneling for the front walls being cut & installed today. This should mark the last day of wood cutting (& sawdust) in the CR. That means we can bring all the gear & monitors back to begin listening & tuning early this week.

BusyBox, 12x13 with a 12' ceiling is likely going to result in some pretty drastic room modes. I'd refer to John Sayer's "Recording Studio Design forum" for room mode calcs, etc and more details than you can possibly digest with regard to finding the right space: http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/ T...

I expected to get a bit more done today, but I guess that's how studio construction goes when you're the only one that shows up! I hate dealing with insulation... such a mess. All of back wall is neatly stuffed now and there's burlap tacked up to hold it in place. All that's left is to pick a finish...

Glenn, The back wall (above the diffuser) has 4" deep foam wedges. There is minimally 12 cubic feet of superchunk rockwool in each rear corner on top and 10 cubic feet of rockwool in the bottom corners and "end tables." There's also 4" of Roxul under the diffuser (behind the couch). I'm afraid that ...

screw it...

Anyone know where I can demo one in the Chicago area?
I'm currently running a George Foreman unit with the attached skillet upgrade. These units take a while to warm up, but the results can be quite surprising.
Also, if anyone has an extra grease reservoir, we're motivated buyers.

8:30 Thursday morning, back for more punishment! Should finish filling up the superchunks in the corners with rock wool. Hope to get our carpenter in here to finish up some diffuser panels for the side walls (don't know if we'll need something over the mix position yet, cloud, diffuser, nothing... w...

The lights are in... par20 50watts are a bit much, probably gonna go with 20watt bulbs for the perimeter/mood lighting.

//Under Construction// Blog for Chicago's Studio 660

Hello all. Locals may have seen my thread in the "Hookups" section. We are building out a space in Chicago's west loop. I'd be happy to post pictures and updates as we progress. This was formerly DAM Recording several years back. It was rented to various engineers and bands in the meantime. The spac...

Yeah, I actually just emailed Jay to see about commissioning a poster for our "grand unveiling". Hope it works out! :D There's so many great bands in town working on a shoestring and doing most of their own recording at home... It's my hope that this can be a place where they can come and (for a rea...

Holy crap! I recorded many, many records in that DAM space in the late 90s/early 00s. I loved the sound of the drum room. Good luck with it, and if you ever need an affordable local mastering contact... Good to hear Carl, Haven't actually listened to many of the clients on your website, but I'll be...
