Okay, okay... so perhaps not everyone wants "perfect" drums. But i thought it fit the song to tighten things up a bit. I could be wrong, i'll do it and listen back a few days later to compare.

Seriously though, no one here edits drums, ever?

Drum Flam Editing Experiment - comments?

Hello everyone. I was editing some drum parts yesterday that my friend Seth played, and I came upon an interesting problem that I thought I would share with teh interwebs. Drum flams: where's the beat? You all may call me crazy, but IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE, I swear. So there's two hits in a flam. Whic...

Hey... could you clarify what you're doing here for me? Are you tracking drums and bass together? Or are you reamping the bass while the drums are recording?

Sounds like a cool technique (if i can figure it out) - i like tasteful bleed.

http://www.grammy.com/PDFs/Recording_Academy/Producers_And_Engineers/PTGuidelines.pdf Here's a doc one of my profs gave me... Suggests some really good ideas, like consolidating ALL your audio files, labeling your tracks (and audio files) clearly, and getting rid of all your effects unless its actu...

I just completed my 57 mod yesterday... Here's some feedback. First off, the article says that there's supposed to be three wires going to the capsule. Mine only has two, positive and negative.... Anyone else run into this? It looks like from the picture in the article that the mic in the pic only h...

hey i'm doing the mod RIGHT NOW... but either the directions for the grounding are unclear or i'm just not getting it... Do you just run the TWO wires from + and - on the capsule to pins two and three, and leave pin 1 alone? that APPEARS to be how it is on the original sm57 but it seems odd to me......

professor, what do you use the wind chimes for? do you use them for background ambience, or "play" them or what?

Aux Perc - Tambourine

Hey all. I've been doing some work lately where I've been wishing I've had some cool ways of keeping time - enter auxillary percussion. I have a plastic half-moon-shaped tambourine, but it sounds virtiually identical to dropping a large chain on the ground. I was wondering what everyone's favorite t...

Merry Christmas Song.

Hello everyone. Just trying to spread some goodwill and all that. Here's my version of "I'll Be Home For Christmas." (I can't get the link to work right, so just copy and past it into your window) http://www.pedalboy.net/music/music/b-sides/CONRAD%20-%20I'll%20Be%20Home%20For%20Christmas.mp3 I recor...

Re: SUB KICK DIY layout

I tried this the other day. Just ran a dumpster-dived speaker to an XLR and stole the "tap on the speaker to make a loop" idea. Crazy sounds. Plus it gave me another excuse to create a crazy effects chain in PT. I love any chance I can get to label a track the "wierd knob." My question is what to do...

Re: Has anyone used this to mic their kicks,,,, or anything

Those of you who are using a transformer with it, what's the advantage to doing this? Also do you have any suggestions for which transforers to use? And Joel Hamilton, do you have any more info on the speaker with the reverb tank built into it?? That sounds crazy! Was it just audio coming into a rev...

Re: score writing

another program that competes with finale is sibelius. (http://www.sibelius.com/)

I don't really know if its any good, I use finale but finale can be a PAIN to get it to do what seems like the simplest things sometimes. Worth a shot anyway.

Re: Distorted tom mics... Tom SPLs...

I've had phantom distortion issues on toms before. My problems were usually caused by the mounting system the mics had (i used the shure mic pack thingies)... They rattle badly on low toms. I switched it to a stand and that was that. Also in theory if you have compression with a very fast attack and...

Re: Equipment you HATE but everyone else seems to LOVE

I used to hate the sm58/sm57 too... But I've found they just need to be plugged in to something better than a mackie to bring out the goodness. What do I hate these days?? I'm having a hard time thinking of stuff. Ok I got it. Rode NT5's. Ok so I'm on a looooow budget but yeah these mics are not exc...
