Rise thred, RISE!!!
I realize this thread is rather old, but I had a few questions for the authors. I acquired an Altec 1678c in excellent condition and have started the mod. I wanted to take things a bit further and add some extra functionality. I mounted SPDT switches to the front panel along with the input gain pote...

The Bellari rp220 very underrated for both of those uses. Sounds great on acoustics and OH. its tube, has input transformers. strangely enough, it goes around $220 used. its nothing like the prochannel IMO. The Black Lion really sounds great also, nice headroom, and input transformers. With either o...

Back to the topic at hand...a few months later....... +1 on Yamaha HS-50. They sound like poop at GC. Try them near a wall, the low end comes out.....more. Seriously though, they are very close to a powered NS-10 IMO. Every studio needs 2 pairs or monitors, a pair that has some low end, and a pair o...

I record entirely unsigned local underground acts and I've noticed that they're all really well practiced and sound good. same here. you read posts on gearslutz where everyone's whining about the deplorable state of musicianship and you just have to wonder who these people are recording. even when ...

*carefully examines various still frames from the DSOTM sections of the Live At Pompeii Director's Cut DVD* *fails to reach any conclusions other than the Synthi A is pretty kickass and that custom guitar Gilmour is playing sure seems sweet* And that there are a lot of U67s and KM86s in action. Chr...

you would know more than i would on this subject, ive had my hands on exactly 2 full API consoles, ever. not that many.....the only reason is i remember reading about alan mixing on an api, but as you said, that pic is live sound, which i remember reading that also. im gonna have to step out of this...

That photo is of Alan Parsons doing a live sound gig for Floyd. Dark Side was done at EMI's Abbey Road studio, which never had a non-EMI console until the first Neve was installed in the late seveties or early 80s. Dark Side was most definitely done on an EMI TG console. I'm also willing to be wron...

Wow, every reference I've seen mentions the EMI TG as the main DSOTM console... (?) yea, i know, i thought that too, abbey was all EMI as far as i know, i think they may have brought this in for the mixdown, or possibly mixed somewhere else? i cant exactly recall all the details. but thats sure him...

if this hasnt been answered yet, API most likely. Not an EMI? http://www.whizwest.com/images/Chris%20EMIrichsessions.jpg correction, most likely either. that is definitely a millennium falcon. very nice. Although alan was partial to API at the time. http://www.multinet.no/~jonarne/Hjemmesia/Favorit...

the "live in pompeii" DVD is bascially the coolest thing I've ever seen. The transfer in Echoes part 1 to that groove that the bass and drum hits, as the camera pans out from behind the wall of speakers with "Pink Floyd" spray painted on them... it's just fuckin cool. And, maybe this would be a goo...

Re: Pink Floyd: How'd They Do That?
pffft. strictly amateur hour. i'm totally renting the entire grand canyon for the guitar solos on MY record. You should totally do that. Maybe see if you can play on top of that overlook that's being built on Native American land. Line up a wall of Marshal 4x12s across the entire thing and then be ...
