Wiring up studio
I'm currently switching to an analog studio at home. I've aqquired all the main pieces: soundcraft M12 mixer, Tascam TSR8 tape machine, and some Tannoy monitors. I just need some help wiring it up. My main problems are that I'm not sure if the inputs and outputs on the tape machine, and mixer are ba...

Brian says: "the shell of a drum is too long and chokes the note anyway" http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/5605/sl513pno7.th.jpg :? Oh yeah! now I get it! I'm abit slow (and have only a very basic grasp of irony) and obviously had to consult Neil Pearts' web page on this one. but it explains that con...

As for tuning the drums to the key of the song when recording, I generally prefer not to because they tend to dissapear in to the mix more (like on tool's lateralus for example, where danny carey tunes his drums for every song), also especially with cheaper drums the timbre and sustain often suffers...

http://www.drummingweb.com/tuning.htm I believe tuning drums is probably the most important, and hard to learn skill for a producer/engineer. I found the information about phase relationships very helpfull in the link above. And personally I do think you need to tune a drum to particular notes that ...

Firstly "I thought this was the future of audio engineering not medium discussion." What the hell is this supposed to mean. And secondly you should know by now assuming that you are an adult that anyone can "prove" anything by using examples of their own experience, and that all that usually shows i...

Within our lifetimes there's still going to be people that prefer to use analogue equipment. I am of the opinion that this is not a question that can be judged by history, i.e people using newer technology because it is deemed better, or more effective than previous technology. Because history has n...

I guess this is a question nobody can REALLY answer, but I have always wondered why there is such a big difference between 80's/90's, and 60's/70's records (and before). Just like if you compare nevermind to seargent peppers say, there is just so much more bass, and the bass sounds just so much more...

most usually a 4 piece 'rock' band, 2 guitar amps (clean, and distorted at times), bass amp, and drum kit. But also just 1 guitar, and drums sometimes. to be used primarily in quite a small room with no acostic treatment. But also I'd like to consider for in a good sounding room as well. My main obj...

drummerworld.com has lots of good instructional videos from professional drummers, just go to the instructional section. It's also good to watch the classic jazz players on there, because of the way the deport themselves behind the kit. I'd particuarly reccomend repeated viewings of the buddy rich s...
