I've been using the 20 bit echo layla unit for years with great success. The drivers are pretty decent and the sound quality is really good. I know it isn't 24 bit but you could probably get one on ebay for under $300.

Having the extra faders with the 428 would be nice but it doesn't sound like you really need them nor the extra inputs so I would use that money to buy a nice mic or something.
