Re: What External Hard Drive for file backup?
The glylph nd 120 was just recomended to me by the salesman who's I've been working with for almost 2 years now at sweetwater, and who I trust, believe it or not. It's $350 for 120 gigs of storage. Anybody use this? I'd kind of be wary of a rack mount unit because having my backups in the house with...

What External Hard Drive for file backup?
I posted this to the computer section, but no responses. Hopefullly I'll have better luck here.
I'm running Pro Tools on a Mac G4 and I want to use an external drive for storage/backup.
What to get? I have no idea....

What's the best external hard drive for backing up my files?
I'm running Pro Tools on a Mac G4 and have a secong internal drive (80 gig) just for audio, but I want an external drive to back all my sessions up on. What's the best? I'm guessing firewire, and I guess I'd like to get a drive that I can run sessions off in real time. What do you guys use for backup?

Re: John Mayer - WTF!?
word. but I like to try and twist sentimental crap like that into something fun for myself. For example, when I heard his "this body is a wonderland" I thought I'd write a similar song, but in style more my own. The result: "my body is a wasteland," a song stylisticly akin to the Velvet's "Candy Say...

Quick, anybody know what this is?
D'oh! forgot to make my yahoo photos folder public. OK, link is now viewable.
It's some kind of Ampex two track preamp section, as best as I can tell.
http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/twitchmonitor?
Anybody know what it is and if I should drop $120 on it? Gotta make a quick choice.
Thanks!

Re: What did you work on tonight?
I worked on going out and buying a bunch of those little shampoo/shaving cream/etc sample bottles because by this time next week, I will be in San Francisco finally mixing my record at Tiny Telephone! YAY! 8) heylow That's awesome! Vanderslice is awesome. What's your band? I'm in SF, by the way, bu...

Re: the best of the cheap condensers
The AT4033 is a great all purpose mic, just don't expect to get good vocals with it, especiallyl male vox. My first LDC was an Oktava mk319 and even though I now intern at a studio where I regularly use an AKG C12, U67, etc, and mainly use the Dave Royer tube modified MXL 2001 at home, I always go b...

Re: Why won't this seemingly simple patch work?
How about this, which was suggested by a pretty audio-knowledgeable friend of mine: If i put a stereo signal in the back of the bay, I'm not going to get a stereo signal out the front (as I thought) but rather a balanced MONO signal....maybe going the other way (mono signal to the stereo plug) it's ...

Re: Losing all perspective....are my mixes ok?
I'd be interested to hear these songs, especially "Quite Like You," without the busy, busy mixes. thekingandcaroline: Yeah, Quite Like You was a song where I had too many ideas and I put them all down so as not to loose anything and am trying to carve the song out of the mess that resulted. Believe...

Re: Losing all perspective....are my mixes ok?
Bear, Thanks, I think you're pretty right on. Quite like you is NOT the cover, so your off the hook :D ....the intro was what I did first and was what I built the song around (first time I ever did THAT). I'm pretty sure I've already got a tambo doing 16th notes on the chorus of Bubbles in my Beer, ...

Re: Losing all perspective....are my mixes ok?
dang. I knew that seemed too easy. OK, i'll go pay for some space, gimme a sec... ....OK, that wasn't so bad. 50 mb for 3 bucks a month. Even I can afford that. I don't know how long it takes yahoo to process the order, but I'm guessing it's pretty quick, so go ahead and give it a try now. (it's now...

Losing all perspective....are my mixes ok?
I feel pretty good about the songs I write in general, but I have a feeling that my mixes aren't doing them justice and over the weekend a long lost friend dropped by and confirmed my fears (one of those brutally honest types, you know). I've posted a handful of the most recent stuff I've done and I...

Re: Why won't this seemingly simple patch work?
Patch cables have seen VERY little use, so I doubt it's that..plus they're neutric, not hosa. the patchbay has cards, so I didn't do any soldering, but i have tried different patchpoints and I get the same thing. As far as problems with the synth, I'm acutally running a Kork DW-6000 out of one point...

Re: Why won't this seemingly simple patch work?
I tried feeding the synth through a preamp, but with both the gain knobs dimes, I only got a halfway decent volume, plus noise, noise, noise since it just basically boosted a weak, noisy signal. No, there's something else. When I plug my phones into the front of the patchbay at the point where the s...
