Need help w/ 7" record cover
Crazy request, but I thought I'd throw it out there. I'm putting out a 7" 45 and I need a die for cutting the cardboard jackets. If anyone knows what I'm talking about and has one, I would need to know by 7/4. I can have one made, but I'm trying to save myself $150. Thanks! Gerald (this is why I can...

re:accordions
I picked up a Hohner student model for $40, which is only like like 2 1/2 octaves, but it doesn't weigh much at all. There was one broken button (which i fixed myself) and a couple of reeds are outta tune, but it's fine for recording because I can always play the lead and chords on two separate trac...

re:who has the best handclaps
The first two songs that came to mind are Paul Pena's "Gonna Move" and Jimmy Soul's "If You Wanna Be Happy." After going back and listening to them, the claps themselves aren't all that interesting. It's the spirit of the song. Both songs are sing-alongs with people shouting to each other, which mak...

am radio sound
If you have an iPod, you could use one of those cheap low range iPod transmitters to broadcast the track to a crappy radio and mic that. I actually did this on a song already, but I ran the whole 2-track mix to the transmitter and mic'ed my 15 year old boom box with a pair of Rhode NT4s and it stil...

Neko Case Reverb
This reminds of one of my favorite reverb stories (and I'm a fan of excessive reverb); I once saw Kelly Hogan (a frequent Neko sidekick) at a crappy little bar in Madison, WI and during the sound check she had to repeatedly keep asking the sound guy to turn up the reverb. Finally she said "turn it u...

sparklehorse "shade & honey"
'shade and honey' was on the laurel canyon soundtrack. i wonder if it's the same version or if it's been reworked at all.[/quote] the version in the movie was performed by the actor Alessadro Nivola backed by members of the Folk Implosion. Although Mark can be seen later in the filming jamming with ...

biodiesel, etc
This is one of the reasons why I read TapeOp! Even though it's grown form being a little 'ziine, it's still Larry, John and crew's rag and they can print whatever they want in it, even a "review" of a Mercedes modded for biodiesel. Keep TapeOp weird!

my favorite panel
One of the reasons that those two panels (rtmmwtr and fmm) were so great is that they were well moderated. The moderators made sure that each panelist had their say and kept the discussions on track. It didn't hurt that there were some amazing stories to be told. I don't know if it would be possible...

Re: Gillian Welch
T-Bone actually only produced the first two discs. Dave and Gillian produced Revelator and Soul Journey. Relelator was recorded at RCA Studio B. Soul Journey was recorded at Studio B and at Woodland Sound in Nashville (which they own), as well as at least one track that was recorded at home on a por...
