ADAT pci card for windows 7
Looking for a cheap card that has light pipe I/o and will work with win 7 64 bit. Rme is a little too steep, but I can't seem to find anything else much cheaper on the Internet. Emu 1212m is the right price but it sounds like it has issues with win 7. Thanks!

Well, my primary occupation right now is improving my mixes. Guess monitors would be the logical choice then, huh? My rationale for the pres would be to get better sounds into the computer, which would then translate into better mixes, in theory, anyways. How much would using a pre like the Hamptone...

What would you buy?
I have around $1200 to spend. I have Alesis Monitor Ones and a Mackie 16 channel board for preamps. I'm stuck between getting an assembled Hamptone (JFET) or some new monitors. My room is acoustically treated and I have decent converters. I make dance oriented electronic music, about 50-75% of which...

Time for spending money!
I'm about to get a $1000 tax return and guess what I want to spend it on? Gear! Before I start, let me say that I am relatively happy with my converters, room treatment and compression. I make mainly electronic music and would like to be able to complete projects (ie mix) at home. Here are some opti...

Not too sure how to host mp3s efficiently on a messageboard like this (advice?) and I don't have a MySpace. I'll see about posting some tracks. As far as equipment goes, see the original post and add: Windows XP Pro on a Dell desktop with 2.6ghz processor and 1.0 gig RAM. Nord Lead 2X, Juno 106, SH-...

Synth Studio Upgrade
With tax return coming, I want to upgrade my home studio. I do mostly electronic music, the bulk of which is hardware synths that are amped with a Mackie mixer and then A/D converted by an M-Audio Firewire Audiophile. Sometimes I record with a mic, too, but mostly it's DI synths. I record and mix in...

Re: Favorite Simpsons quote
From the episode where Homer hires a Private Detective to learn more about Lisa-
Private Eye: Tell me what you know about Lisa Simpson.
Ralph: Lisa Simpson is a girl in my class!
Private Eye: Tell me something else.
Ralph: One time I picked my nose so hard it bleeded!

I just recorded a record of my own with it and have no complaints. It's the only DAW type thing I've used, though, so I don't have much to compare it to. I was really happy with it. Ableton is extremely killer, too.

Re: What's your favorite Casio?
Does anyone know how the Unicorns got the crazy casio sounds on their record? It sounds like the keyboard's broken, but it also sounds like they can control the little squawking sounds and the sort of glissando effects they make. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Re: tips on getting vocals to sit in the mix
Try a reward and consequence system - if you can get the vocal to sit, give it a little treat. If it won't, smack it firmly on the nose, just hard enough to smart a little. It will get the picture sooner or later.

And Justice For All . . .
The bassless band thread this morning reminded me of this Metallica record. Jason Newstead is credited as playing bass on it, but, although I haven't heard it in a while, I remember not beaing able to hear a note of bass guitar on the whole thing. My friend and I used to joke about poor Jason, getti...

Re: Sorry...
That being said - Once you can hear the difference, it doesn't mean you're required to like it. I think this is what bugs me about certain "analog purists." There's this idea that analog tape is somehow objectively better. Everything's subjective in music and making any kind of art. Where would hip...
