Re: Studio price wars again in Chicago
Doctors do it all the time. It's called referals. For example: my studio is geared more towards acoustic and non hard rock music. If I had someone who filled in my missing gaps is this collusion? There are also outright studio merges and co-ops to consider. It's probably time to start thinking like ...

Absolutely not.Joel Hamilton wrote: The doctor analogy always comes to mind. Would you bargain shop for an operation???
But neither would I choose one based on the fact that he's most expensive.
In both cases results and reputation should be the deciding factor, not cost.

Studio price wars again in Chicago
$25.00 for a downrown studio? That's awful cheap even for a "contract engineer" The reply is brutal. This does not bode well. Check out listings "Good rates for local musicians on studio time" http://chicago.craigslist.org/muc/ If this keeps up I'm gonna have to learn to eat tape. Wait, at current p...

Why are you getting rid of it?
Crusty is my hero, right after Homer, that is.

Re: guitar pickup question
Of course this now gets into the land of opinoins, rather than Fender distributed facts. But In my opinion it's the same root problem then, Ken. I had to fool around and finally found string guages that both sounded and felt right. It seemed that the closer to the strings, the more apparent the imba...

Re: bulk erasing 2"
Probably not. Those rooms are so booked we had three of them running 24/7/365. The only time I would get to fix things is scheduled way ahead unless it actually went down. I was staff so I would slip in between patients (total of maybe 5 minutes time between each) i could get one or two done at any ...

Re: guitar pickup question
You're welcome, Ken.
This isn't a "classic" strat with staggered pickup poles is it?
If it is try a wound "G".

Re: guitar pickup question
I don't say it.
It's in the Fender Support literature and posted on their web site "Mr Gearhead". The closest allowable tolerances are published there with the same info that is on the other posted url.

Re: Sunn Cocert Lead head question!
I've been running SS amps no load for 25 years so I either had a real streak of good luck, or the info I was given is correct.

Re: guitar pickup question
Kenny, That's a nice link with valid info, but it's for strat type (non adjustable pole) pickups. They are different in many important ways. Single coil have a smaller magnetic field, therefore there magnets need to be much stronger. If you have single coil pickups too close to the strings the magne...

Re: Sunn Cocert Lead head question!
That applies to tube amps. You will fry the output transformer for sure if it runs with a signal applied and no load for any length of time.
Solid state amps are good with no load conditions

Re: bulk erasing 2"
I guarrantee that a MRI will do it. It will pull any metal that goes across the gantry room threshold into the throat of the toroid. All tools were made of brass (non ferous). I forgot one day and wore my watch in there. Not only did it stop dead, but now it picks up paperclips and small nails. (LOL...
