Re: Dillion DRX 500 For Sale

One Bump and it off to eBay on Monday. The asking price ($350.00) is for non-TapeOp buyers. This is one of those cheap "gems" people were asking about in earlier posts in the "General" threads. Gibson Pickups are extra cost 'cause you're getting the originals, too. They're ceramics and too hot for m...

Re: guitar pickup question

Visually speaking, it's amazing how staggered the pole screws are on this instrument for an even string balance! Indeed ! And that balance changes as different gauges of strings are used, and even "the same guage" strings from different manufacturers. Before the mid to late 60's the "G" string of m...

Re: guitar pickup question

The screws on the side of the pickup (not the pole screws) are for rough level adjustments of the pickup gain and tone. The individual pole screws adjust the balance between strings for the same qualities.

Re: bulk erasing 2"

I worked in the Radiology department of a hospital for 25 years. I would bring mine into the MRI gantry room for 30 seconds, then bring it back home. I'm sure that the 1.5 Tesla magnet in the room made that tape more naked than the day it was manufactured. This same proceedure was good for magnetizi...

Re: How To Hints...

Producing is much, much more than microphones/performances/and music. Make a very deliberate move to make every cool thing that happens in the studio FEEL like a happy accident, and never let on that you intended these results (or at least hoped for them) all along. Doing so breaks the spell cast o...

Re: Equipment & Temperature, etc.

I've personally fried tube gear by having it sit in the cold too long and then not allowing it enough time for the condensation forming to dry out. One may get by but I wouldn't make it a habit, the odds are against you eventually. I think that 4-8 hours warmup is sufficient if the gear has gotten t...

Re: What Are You Working On Tomorrow 10-12-04

I'm finishing off verifying all the signal paths to and from the patchbay in preperation for the first recording session this Saturday. So far so good I only found two mistakes on a 384 point patch bay and I'm well over 1/2 done on the verification process. The Mackie 24x8 that I'm using has been re...

Dillion DRX 500 For Sale

Time to get rid of some stuff to pay for some good preamps. 2003 Dillion Hard Tail PRS knockoff with ISIS inlay in transparent blue. Action is sweet with a flat radius (15") rosewood fretboard on a mahogony Fender scale length neck. Great detail and workmanship on the genuine abalone inlay. Mahogony...

Re: Cheap ass electric guitar thread

Okey, What do you guys like? I personally think there are a shitload of great cheapo electrics out there, worth being your main guitar, even. A higher percentage of electrics than acoustics I'd say, though I don't wanna discredit the 70's Yamahas. But anyway. . . . Harmony? Cheopo Epiphones? Squire...

Re: Nady mic's?

Hey Bill, I've been dying to hear a "real" evaluation of these Nady ribbons. I was tempted to just grab one as you did b/c the price is so cheap, but figured that if i waited long enough, someone else would. I'm glad you've got some other decent ribbons to compare to. Be brutally honest....if they'...

Re: Nady mic's?

That was sort of my train of thought. Plus at $300.00 I'm more likely to bring it out of the studio on location. The AEA is 3X the cost. It will stay in the studio. Forget any RCA mics (leaving the sudio). You'll have to leave your soul as colateral.

Re: Nady mic's?

I just picked up a RM-2 large geometry ribbon mic. Initial evaluation is good, warm and detailed but not very sensitive. It made even my voice sound like a crooner. I'm recording a band next Saturday so I'll likely be able to give it a real good acid test then. It's my travelling ribbon. I'll match ...

Re: Are brand new Analog Reel to Reel a thing of the past ??

Indeed it is, but the packing must be made just as heavy duty. It's not a matter of political boundries as much as practicality. This puppy heavy and fragile. It's best a local pickup item in my book, YMMV.

Re: Are brand new Analog Reel to Reel a thing of the past ??

If you were'nt were I'd have to internationally ship it I'd offer you my TASCAM TRS-8. It's practically brand new.

There are others out there for less than you would think.
